Someone sneaked in this shenanigan into the Amir Khan professional section, as of 3:15 or so CST (US):

"On April 5th 2008, Khan beat Kristjansen in the 7th round of a WBO World Lightweight. There is some speculation as to whether Khan cheated."

It's a semi-protected page, & apparently only allows registered users to edit it.

April 2007

The Sugar Ray Leonard quote is hyperbole from an observer who has seen little of Khan. Leonard as a pundit is not held in the same regard as he was as a fighter, and he has a reputation for saying the politically correct thing and telling people what they want to hear Benbrindon 05:19, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Problem sentence

I've changed "He has won his first twelve professional fights, drawing good reviews in the tabloid press however boxing fans have criticised Khan for repeatedly fighting journeymen from lower weight divisions many with as few as zero knockouts." to "He has won his first twelve professional fights, drawing good reviews in the press".

Please don't put stuff like "boxing fans have criticised ..." into articles without linking to a newspaper article (or some other "Wikipedia:Reliable Source") which proves that boxing fans have indeed done that. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living people. Thanks, CWC 14:48, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

I apologise, i changed this article before reading the discussion. Minor Edits

I just replaced the chunk of writing that was written next to the willie limond fight about how the match went, and i moved it under neath the professional section as that is the place where it should be kept, the bottom section just should show his fights.

Driving conviction

"Khan is due to appear at Rochdale Magistrates Court on 26th October 2007 to face charges of driving in excess of 70 mph, failing to produce his driving license and failing to produce proof of insurance Result: The court took his licence away for the next 6 months and he has to pay 1000 pounds." I think two cases are being confused here. He got a six month disqualification and £1000 fine for careless driving in Bolton when he hit a pedestrian whilst overtaking cars stationary at traffic light in the wrong lane at approximately 47 mph. He was due to appear in court also last week accused of doing 140+ mph on the M62 but failed to appear, he also did not produce his documents. He has been ordered to appear next week and an arrest warrant will be issued if he is not court. [1] [2]

Amir's original descent

A user has wrongfully changed the info as to Amir's parental origin. There are referenced sources for his clan's residence and his ancestral lineal descent to the Janjua (fully referenced also in his book and a worldwide distributed mens magazine respectfully) as well as an online boxing review. Please can it be ensured that no politically motivated changes occur, as he is NOT Kashmiri or Indian, but a British Muslim of Pakistani Janjua Rajput descent who's parents famously hail from Rawalpindi.

Apologies to dissapoint but one must provide a reference for the assertion that his parents or indeed his ancestral clan has engaged in this. In fact the Colonial generals and majors who documented the clans history recorded that the Clan only intermarry with clans of equal Martial and aristocratic warrior standing.

Rawalpindi is like a smaller New York City of Pakistan and many different ethnic groups live in it. Starting with Punjabis as the major group, then comes Pashtuns (Pathans), followed by Kashmiris, and then others. Khan is actually a Mongolian title used first by the Juan Juan of central Asian Steppes, in the 5th century, later the Mongols of Genghis Khan, and eventually reaching the south Asian Afghans and other Indic Warrior clans. Later the title was also given to warrior Rajput clans by Mughal Emperors. This was never a Pathan/Afghan title/name, as they themselves recieved it from the Turks and Mongol overlords themselves. Khan appears Punjabi because he simply is of Punjabi racial heritage but a British lad of bi-cultural upbringing. His clan had inherited this title since the early 13th century. Amir Khan is still involved with No Messin'! showing up at the events, having his photo taken and has had videos taken and placed on YouTube (He even has a link to the site on the top right hand corner of his website) and I feel this should be reflected on this page.

Someone check this please

He is the current Commonwealth lightweight champion and the remaining WBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion.

I think I changed this once before, but it seems to have changed back, so can I get a second opinion before I change it again in case I am going mad? First, I do not understand what "remaining" is supposed to mean here. Second, did he not lose said WBO title? Poor sentence

"Khan was knocked down within 35 seconds and struggled to make the count, Prescott downed him again within 45 seconds, moments later to win by knockout it was a big mistake standing and trading with a big pouncher like prescott" - there are so many things wrong with the last part of this sentence that I laughed when I read it. super lightweight

Khan holds the WBA world super lightweight title, not the welterweight. It's also been his weight division and he doesn't change weight classes often like other boxers do. Men's Health

We are using Men's Health as the source for the statement of Khan's Rajput origins. Since (a) he was born about 2 miles from me here in the UK and (b) this is a biography of a living person, I ask whether someone can provide a copy of that article for review. I think it is disengenous to cite Amir's Janjua origins as royal, martial and warrior. Questions arise as to which royalty they belong to, how martial they were/are and where did they rule? Given that other tribes, designated as martial by the imperial British Raj had their own princely states e.g. the Sikhs, Gurkhas, Rajputs and various Pashtun dominated tribal areas the Janjuas did not have their own state other than their own villages which was common for most communities in India. These epithets seem to originate from another Wikipedia article on Janjuas which seems to have grandiose and inflated history for this group whereas the other Rajput tribes with real, not imagined, history and ruled in East Panjab, Rajputana and other parts of India till the 1960's. Janjuas in India are a cultivator caste by the way. WikhiSikhi (talk) 20:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Nationality.

There seems to be some disagreement in regards to Amir Khan's nationality at the moment, it keeps being switched from British to British Pakistani and so on. According to WP:OPENPARA, we do not put any emphases on ethnicity in the lead section unless it is an important part of why this person is notable in one way or the other (i.e. George Takei for example). I cannot see the importance of Khan's Pakistani heritage warranting a mention in the lead section as he is notable in his field as a British Boxer only. He was born in Britain, Fights for Britain, and has British citizenship. A user who has been responsible for a slow-moving edit war stated that Khan publicly identifies as British-Pakistani. However, if this is the case it will need a source, and if they can provide a reliable one I would be more than happy to see him described as British-Pakistani in the lead as personal identification is important. In all honesty, I've heard Khan talking about his Muslim faith a lot more than his Pakistani heritage...--Τασουλα (talk) 16:13, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

The lead contains his nationality (see Opening paragraph at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies) hence we should use British. There is no British Pakistani nationality. His ethnicity belongs elsewhere. Mr Stephen (talk) 17:04, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability - but we have a habit of including personal preferences as well. Just throwing it out there. But there's no issue because as there's nothing to back this up anyway. (and I take it you mean by no British-Pakistani nationality in the sense that Pakistan does not allow dual citizenship? Agreed.. the current version is correct and it should not be changed to include ethnicity in the opening sentence. Ethnicity might be worth including if that was the primary reason for his notability, but clearly its sporting ability rather than ethnicity in this case. In the section Vs Garcia

Article claims that when Garcia knocked Khan to the canvas it was only the second time in his career. His bout against Limond he was knocked down, tried to blame a push but stood up just before 10 to avoid the count.
