Birth Place[edit]

For some reason, someone changed Anole's hometown from Fairbury, Illinois to Fernwood, New York. I have no idea why that changed occour, but I changed back to Fairbury, Illinois as stated in X-Men Divided We Stand #1 comics. Anole has a small role in X-Men: The Last Stand as a member of the Brotherhood. He is seen crawling on a wall during Magneto's speech. During Magneto's assault on Alcatraz, he is shot by a dart containing the mutant cure, and is thus depowered. Mistakenly, people believe that this is Toad, but the producers confirm that it is indeed Anole.

Hereby requesting a source for this as Anole is not creditted in the movie's credits. Otherwise voting for removal of this piece of text.

Panels have emerged of future issues, depicting Anole with a huge reptilian arm replacing the one he lost. It seems his mutation also endows him with the ability to recover limbs, though they emerge as more completely mutated versions of the originals. The arm itself is spikey, resembling his scalp, and appears to be immensly powerful.

Can some one post where is information was found otherwise it should be removed from this page

Name[edit]

Did the creators know the pun that would definitely come about after naming a gay mutant ANOLE? It's probably not pronunced the way I'm thinking, but a lot of people would probably misread it as such.Sonny Death 08:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The correct pronunciation is A-no-le. The 'joke' is that if you think it's pronounced 'A-nole' then it seems close to 'anal' which could be interpreted as a 'gay joke' much like Wiccan's former codename 'Asguardian' and 'Ass-guardian'.Luminum 03:58, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Messiah Complex entry[edit]

Per AUburnTiger's request for a consensus to this request: I feel that the section was more ambiguous in the past, merely stating, without an intro, that the New X-Men were searching for "the baby." In response, someone (perhaps myself, even) added the one-sentence summary of Messiah CompleX and the baby's involvement (i.e., first mutant birth detected). As such, I feel the following sentences ("find the baby has gone missing...go to search for the baby") are pretty explanatory without going into needless detail. If the user is interested in reading more about the baby, the main link to X-Men: Messiah CompleX is there. In my opinion the section could use some additional detail. The section as is I think is useful only to someone with moderate knowledge of the recent X-Men universe. I think some explanation on why this baby is important is needed. A reader should not have to go to another link to get an understanding of an article. Certainly we don't need to recount the entire storyline, but a more rounded explanation never hurts.AUburnTiger (talk) 01:12, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"The first mutant birth since Decimation," doesn't explain enough? Would that not imply already that no mutant births had occurred since Decimation since it's the first? Likewise, an individual reading the article would already know about House of M having read the "Post-M-Day" section on the page. True, a reader shouldn't have to go through a link to understand an article. As it stands, a person who carefully reads the sections should be able to understand that "the baby" is the first mutant birth since Decimation and that the baby has gone missing and the New X-Men, including Anole, go to search for it--all information that is already on the page. If you reference other character pages, such as Cyclops (comics), Mystique, Emma Frost, or even fictional_history_of_Wolverine#Post_House_of_M they don't give background on the event, only what is directly related and notable to the character's involvement. As far as I'm familiar, more rounded explanations are redundant and reserved for the actual page of the event, otherwise related pages would be bogged down with repetitive and superficially related information.Luminum (talk) 01:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Film[edit]

I found a cast list for X-Men 3 that states the Anole-like character is "Lizard Man". I think we should change the article to reflex this. Also, I have seen no evidence anyone thought the character was toad, so that might need to be removed.AUburnTiger (talk) 23:15, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

B-Class[edit]

I've reviewed this article as B-Class. It has references, pretty comprehensive and no spelling errors jump out, good work by all involved. To move towards a Good Article I would suggest the following:

  • Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[?]
  • Expanding contractions: didn't, isn't, doesn't, weren't, doesn't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded.
  • Merging shorter paragraphs and sections together. The Fictional character biography section has a lot of one, two and three paragraph sections. I'd suggest rewriting the entire section and breaking it into maybe three or four sections covering longer periods, and maybe excise some of the less notable moments. The Codename etymology and Other versions sections should be merged into the Publication history section, and maybe repeated in the Lead.
  • Think about whether that great big nav-box at the bottom of the article is really needed.
  • Every issue mentioned in the article needs a cite after it, giving at a minimum the publisher and the date it was published, but also if possible the writer and artist.

Major changes[edit]

In an attempt to meet the suggestions listed above to improve the class of this article, I have expanded the introductory paragraph giving the most notable overall summary for the character.

I also merged sections under more relevant headings (ex. "Early life" and "Alpha Squadron" became merged into "Early life and arrival at Xavier's").

Less important aspects and involvement that are not notable to the character were merged into sections (ex. Victor has relatively minimal and non-notable character involvement and development in Messiah Complex and Secret Invasion, so I made mention that he participated, but removed them as their own sections.)

I added a "sexuality" section as Victor's relatively rare identity as an openly gay character is part of what makes him notable in the X-Men franchise and is often discussed in the comics. This leads into the "alternate storylines" section which deals heavily on his sexual orientation.

I've also updated and standardized all the references to the Wikipedia:Citation_templates formats, including those that have since been taken down by archiving them via webcite.com.

There is only one issue in which Reference #4 no longer exists and I have already attempted to locate an archived version of the page without any success. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can rewrite the section or even just drop the factoid altogether ("Anole's codename was given to the writers by a fan via their online forum").

I did wonder about these two blogs [1] and [2] and I am unsure about why they are exceptions to the non-blogs guideline (for example, are they considered an expert?

Thanks for your advice! I rearranged those sources, removing the first and searched around with the second. In regard to the second blog, his entries were featured by Logo specifically on the NewNowNext blog as well as their purchased site AfterElton.com. While as a forum member Lyle Masaki might not have expert status, I think his content's promotion by Logo-based web media lent the necessary credibility.
