There needs to be a Low Roar page

[edit]

I am a music photographer researching the Icelandic band "Low Roar." It is entirely confusing that Wikipedia has merged the Low Roar page in with the now defunct band Audrye Sessions. Low Roar is on an international tour with Hozier [1] and had released their second album. I would think that would qualify for their own wikipedia page. I realize that a decision was made almost a year ago to merge the two. However, it is clear at this point in time that Audrye Sessions and Low Roar are two different bands. Minimally, the name if this page needs to be changed to Low Roar. Paigekparsons (talk) 16:52, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Paige K Parsons, house photographer for the Masonic Auditorium San Francisco[reply]

I still stand by the contribution I made in 2014 "Low Roar"

[edit]

The band is totally notable. It had very successfull KEXP sessions and tons of radio hosting. It's turing with hozier as mentioned, what's more there lots of way less notable bands here in wikipedia. The band is known at it's country at the very least. The front man Ryan played with Soko and put it on the social medias. The "consensus to merge" was a total riot of terrible-ness on a new article yet to be fully formed without considering it's final form at the time. It was absolute disgust with phony arguments of "notability isn't inherent" where other bands I can point at easily do inherit notability even when they bearly have a handful songs and shows. I am still offended but it's utterly obvious that the community wants this information. That's why I still stand behind this. Not because I want to contribute but because the history section still has the basics needed for the community to start their own contribution. And if you (the reader) want a proper "Low Roar" page as well, please consider my latest contributions. If you (the inspector/whatever) got sober, please do consider bringing the band's page. If you haven't , please research a bit and think twice. Cheers.Fresh123456 (talk) 23:01, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you editors came to your senses 2 years too late

[edit]

Yup, the song "I'll keep coming" is of Low Roar and not Audrye Sessions and is now very popular because it accompanied E3's debut trailer of Death Stranding. Fresh123456 (talk) 19:33, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Low Roar should have their artist page reinstated.

[edit]

Low Roar is releasing a third album, and according to Spotify has 185,000+ monthly listeners. I don't see how that is insufficient notability, considering an artist like Azure Ray only has 39,000+ monthly listeners. Low Roar is a separate entity which is gaining a considerable fanbase, while Audrye Sessions is a thing of the past (534 monthly listeners last I checked). Surely, Audrye Sessions should not have their article deleted since they did enjoy a period of notability, but Low Roar should also have their own page since they have reached a sizable amount of followers. Edmondduong (talk) 18:02, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's just semi-important Wikipedians being stubborn; a fairly common issue on this website. There was a debate about Low Roar and Audrye Sessions' pages in 2014 that lead to them being merged, they're standing by that decision regardless of how the situation has changed in the three years since then. I find it highly amusing that Low Roar have likely exceeded the fame of Audrye Sessions by now, yet they're still redirected to them. 51.37.53.226 (talk) 23:21, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Low Roar has undoubtedly surpassed Audrye Sessions' popularity in every measure–Low Roar has 2-3 times more songs, 3 times the number of albums (not including any EPs), 300 times more monthly Spotify listeners, and, since the end of 2011, has had much more interest on Google. I'm going to pursue either separating the pages or renaming the page to Low Roar. Zera555 (talk) 02:36, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree at this point, it's gotten a bit ridiculous they're still being redirected to Audrye Sessions. No disrespect, but Low Roar is significantly more famous than any of Karazija's previous work and has been for at least two years. It's like if Death Grips' page was redirected to Hella. 51.37.91.205 (talk) 20:30, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Somehow nobody seems to have mentioned the significance of the other people who were in Audrye Sessions and are in no way related to Low Roar. neither act was a single person, this entire approach is nonsensical and was in 2014 when the original (questionable) decision was made. Listing former members from acts linked by a single person is dismissive towards musicians and contributes to the cult of frontman.

Request Move to Low Roar

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved at this time, per the discussion below. However, it appears possible that there could be consensus for a split. Dekimasuよ! 16:32, 30 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Audrye SessionsLow Roar – Audrye Sessions used to be a music project by Ryan Karazija until around 2010. Since 2011 (and still today) he is actively making music under the new name Low Roar. Low Roar is becoming more and more successful and popular, and has more than 500.000(!) monthly listeners on Spotify. Low Roar's music is featured in very popular current video games (Death Stranding). It has surpassed Audrye Sessions by more than an order of magniture in terms of scrobbles on last.fm (https://www.last.fm/de/music/Audrye+Sessions vs. https://www.last.fm/de/music/Low+Roar). There was a merge discussion for both pages in 2014 - a long time ago, when the situation might have been different. Things have clearly changed since a few years, as discussed on the talk pages of Low Roar and Audrye Sessions - please have a look at these Talk pages for further data points and arguments for this move. In 2019 there is no reason to redirect from Low Road to Audrye Sessions anymore. Instead it should be the other way around. Thank you. Zwodrei (talk) 22:05, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Well this is confusing. It seems like Audrye Sessions and Low Roar are two different musical acts that share a member. It doesn't make sense to rescope an article about one band to be about a different one. If Low Roar is notable, it/he should have a separate article (worth noting that this has been tried twice, and deleted twice, but maybe things have changed since 2014). Also, just to put it out there, I get some odd vibes from the general tone of the comments on this page from a variety of new or new-ish accounts. I hope I'm wrong, but it smells of sockpuppetry, or perhaps off-wiki canvassing. Colin M (talk) 06:57, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Having a separate Low Roar page would be a great solution from my perspective as well. It's just that half of the Audrey Sessions page talks about Low Roar already. So this would need to be addressed. I could do that, but I just want to make sure that the changes don't get reverted... Zwodrei (talk) 11:21, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Opposed, not because I disagree that Low Roar needs their own article, but because Audrye Sessions shouldn't have theirs taken away. This whole Audrye Sessions/Low Roar conflict is the result of a stupid edit war from years ago when Low Roar was still rather obscure. I honestly cannot believe it's still ongoing, but it still doesn't mean this page should be merged with Low Roar. They're both separate projects only sharing one person. 78.152.253.113 (talk) 01:38, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Splitting proposal

[edit]

I propose that this article is split into a separate page called Low Roar (which is currently redirecting here).

I would propose to move the end of the history section to the new page, starting from "releasing a self-titled album in 2011…", as well as the list of albums by Low Roar and to add appropriate references on both pages. The content of the current page covers two different bands that happen to share a single member (Ryan Karazija), and that should be addressed on their own individual articles. Earlier I proposed to move this page to Low Roar, but as pointed out in the discussion, it might be nice to keep the information about the older band project on this current site. Note that the Low Roar article was merged with this one several years ago, but that this does not reflect the current situation any more, i.e., the band Low Roar is much more popular than Audrye Sessions. For further arguments why Low Roar should have their own page, please have a look at the move discussion and the talk above, as well as the talk page of Low Roar.

@Dekimasu and Colin M: You voted on the move. Maybe you can say something here, too.

Thanks, Zwodrei (talk) 17:00, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

By nearly every metric, Low Roar is a bigger band than Audrye Sessions. They have released more music, have had a longer lifespan, and significantly more popular (Audrye Sessions has approx. 750 monthly listeners on Spotify, whereas Low Roar has nearly 450k). Phart4President (talk) 23:28, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe you've properly made a split request. Please see WP:PROPSPLIT. Regardless, I support Low Roar being split from this article. 93.107.149.152 (talk) 04:19, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your support! Could you tell me what was missing to make a proper split request? I did follow the instructions here: Wikipedia:Splitting#Procedure and Audrye Sessions did appear in the List of propsed splits in January (Archive.org), so I thought this was sufficient. Zwodrei (talk) 21:11, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting is done

[edit]

I am doing the split today, in agreement that each band should have its own article. There are now separate articles for Low Roar and Audrye Sessions, and I will remove most of the Low Roar information from the Audrye Sessions article. The only minor issue is that the infobox photo was from the Low Roar days so I am moving it over there, leaving Audrye Sessions photo-less for now. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 18:52, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I should also point out that any of the particularly sarcastic people in the above discussions, complaining for at least five years about the Audrye Sessions/Low Roar confusion, could have done this at any time. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 19:13, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for doing the split! I also want to point out that me and someone else tried to create the Low Roar page by copying content from the Audrye Sessions page, which was always reverted without further comment, simply referring to the ancient deletion/merge discussion, ignoring comment that followed afterwards. So I had to figure out that there is such a thing as a split request that needs to reach consensus. Sure, this is Wikipedia, so everyone should play by Wikipedia's rules, but this might not always exactly be obvious to people who don't spend much time writing and editing articles here. What I'm saying is: maybe a pointer to the split process would have helped when people tried to take care of things themselves. Anyway, problem is solved now. Thanks again for your help. Zwodrei (talk) 21:23, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Never thought I'd see the day. You seem to be unaware, but several people have attempted a splitting over the years, but it was always contested by the same one or two people. There was even a full article at one point six or seven years ago. If I remember correctly, the original article was made before Low Roar became famous from Death Stranding and they weren't considered to pass the WP:NOTE criteria . That was generally upheld for years even when they had widely surpassed Audrye Sessions' popularity.
This entire situation was honestly one of the most baffling sagas I've seen in my 12+ years of using Wikipedia. Glad to see it finally resolved. 109.79.144.249 (talk) 12:30, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
