Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Barnevelder. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Copyediting and Formatting

[edit]

Howdy,
I plan to start editing this page. My list of major anticipated edits is as follows:

  • Add citations to Chicken Breeds Infobox
  • Add citations to Introduction and Characteristics section
  • Reformat varieties section as a table
  • Edit Characteristics and Double-laced pattern sections for style

I will be keeping an ongoing list of minor edits and potential major edits on my personal Talk page. Once the list is more fleshed out, I will publish it here. McCoppin (talk) 06:04, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it could certainly do with some work, McCoppin! But why don't you just go ahead and edit the article? Do you read Dutch? – that would certainly be a help here, but this, which is the most useful source I found in a brief search, is also available in English. In my opinion, the Varieties section is too large, too detailed, and especially too poorly referenced – rather than a table, it could perhaps become a paragraph of running text? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:18, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links, Justlettersandnumbers! Unfortunately, I don't read Dutch. Because of this, I doubt I will be able to add all of the necessary citations, but I will try to add as many as I can. I think you're right about the Varieties section as well; I'll see what I can take out or condense. McCoppin (talk) 15:18, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers I made some major edits to the Varieties section, so I figured I should post it here before putting it into the article. I've trimmed it down to a paragraph of running text and deleted quite a bit of information. If the following edits are acceptable, I will go ahead and put them into the article:
"The original and most well-known Barnevelder variety is the double-laced variety, which has a single vertical comb and yellow legs, but other varieties also exist. There are large fowl as well as bantam versions of most of the different varieties. The double-laced, black, white, autosexing barred, dark brown, chamois, double-laced blue, and silver-black double-laced varieties have large fowl and bantam versions. The partridge, blue, and silver varieties have only large fowl versions. Not all countries recognize all these varieties in their Poultry Standards.[6][7][8][9]"
It looks like an improvement, McCoppin. The colours recognised in the various European countries are listed in this source:
It looks as if you may still have too many listed. I think the double-laced silver may not yet be recognised, but I haven't looked in detail. Have to go now … Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:10, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and thank you for checking here before making your changes, but you know you really don't need to! I 'm not sure if anyone else is watching this page, but if by any chance I don't exactly agree with something you do, I'll almost certainly say so! References?

[edit]

A suggestion to make editing this page a little easier: what if we change the referencing system over to list-defined? That would take the references out of the body text and group them in the References section; they'd all need a ref name such as <ref name=ee>; all that would then appear in the body text would be either <ref name=ee /> or – still more economical – {{r|ee}}. That would make the text a lot easier to read, specially where there are a large number of references. I won't make this change without agreement here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:58, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good idea to me, Justlettersandnumbers. I don't know much about that style of references, but it would make editing easier. McCoppin (talk) 06:38, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I went ahead and did that, hope it helps. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:43, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
