Poison Ivy
[edit]The article states (about the song 'Poison Ivy'): "As happened with so many other Aussie cover versions of songs made known by significant British groups of the time, The Aztecs' version of this Coasters original made a mockery of the record upon which it was based - a half-hearted Rolling Stones EP rendition." Maybe somebody understands this, but it seems obscure to me. I remember the song, but it was sung straight and not mocking, as far as I know. What other songs by Aussies were mocking? Or does the writer mean that these songs were superior to the originals? If so, it's very POV and ambiguous to boot. (PS, vale Thorpie, who died this morning.) Alpheus 21:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
What the?
[edit]Nice to see that his death is pretty much the whole article... I thought he also had a career and such? Sorry for the sarcasm ;) Naysie 00:48, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
What on Earth happened to all the other information? Just becuase it wasn't in the "formal tone" is no reason to delete it. Maybe someone could consider fixing it?
- It wasn't the informal tone. As mentioned below, I deleted the bulk of the article because it was a cut-and-paste copyright violation from another website. I've filled out the rest of the article now, just need a bit of expansion on his return to Australia. --Canley 00:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
the address for his "official site" is a spyware & virus site. I visited it & got 3 different hits from spyware & viruses I feel it should be removed from the article
Thorpie.com - Official Billy Thorpe website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lgore69 (talk • contribs) 19:59, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Lgore69 that the official site link has issues. These are confirmed by McAfee Site Advisor. http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/thorpie.com
I had visited to site previously so I do not think it is a bogus site but it did make my A/V pop up a warning and blocked the site so I thought it would be prudent to remove it to protect others. Hope I did this right. --Worfus (talk) 05:27, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Aztecs
[edit]As per above he had an amazing life, including two autobiographies - so there is a wealth of info there. Suggest that the article either be merged with the article on the Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs (where I just topped it off with a finale paragraph before finding this new article), or an entire quality article be developed on Thorpie as an individual proper. As I now peruse earlier versions I note the massive recent deletions for copyright violation. Pity. Hopefully it won't take long for a quality non vio article to get sorted. --Bradjonesxxx 02:45, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
"Thorpie killed the fish"
[edit]Is the 1974 incident at the Bondi Lifesaver, in which the music was so loud it killed a tank full of fish, best suited for this article or the Aztecs one? 149.135.109.55 03:22, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Discography needed
[edit]A comprehension Discography is needed for this article, that has his own personal recordings listed, as not all titles are listed at Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs to show what recordings he made in the US and on his own in the early days of his career. 00:09, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Proposed major changes
[edit]Billy Thorpe is an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee and deserves a B-class article, I intend to make major changes to expand and otherwise improve this article. Some interim edits will be unfinished or disorganised. First major edit will occur today.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:47, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- I have now finished two major edits and believe the article to be of B-class. Inevitably, there is substantial overlap with Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs but I believe I have fleshed out BT's non-Aztec career a little more: including his time in USA, his subsequent return to AUS and more on his solo discography.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:23, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Recent edits by Longthagee
[edit]User:Longthagee ( talk | contribs ) has recently made some edits and removed material that was referenced by the National Library of Australia. The edit summary indicated that this information was incorrect but did not provide any reliable source to support this. The deleted material related to Thorpe's working with Tony Barber both in a soft toy company and in co-writing of children's books. I intend returning this material and ask that Longthagee provide reliable evidence before deleting it.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Children of the sun
[edit]Why does Children of the Sun just redirect to the Billy Thorpe page? Why is there no wiki article on Children of the Sun?
As to the differences between COTS and COTS - Revisited, here's the tracklisting for the original (Capricorn) album:
1.Wrapped in the Chains
2. Dream Maker
3. Simple Life
4. Goddess of the Night
5. Children of the Sun
6. We're Leaving
7. We Welcome You
8. Solar Anthem
9. Beginning
Here's the track listing for COTS revisited:
1. Children Of The Sun
2. We're Leaving
3. We Welcome You
4. Solar Anthem
5. The Beginning
6. Earth Calling
7. Turn It Into Love
8. Free Enterprise
9. East Of Eden's Gate
Does anyone know what the difference between "Children of the Sun" and "Children of the Sun...Revisited" is? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.116.17.13 (talk) 20:51, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Bibliography?
[edit]Is a bibliography really necessary, when there's a reference section at the bottom of the page anyway? Should this be considered for a merge or am I missing something? Styk0n (talk) 09:14, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Alice Cooper tour
[edit]No mention of Thorpe as support act for Alice Cooper in (I think) 2006 at Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide, and he killed them. All the good historical stuff and a few from Tangier. Jackie Orszaczky was his bassist, that's all I remember, but there must be more info somewhere. Doug butler (talk) 23:16, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
