Updates
[edit]Has there been any mention of that feasiblity study since that Balt Sun article last year? Just curious. ccwaters 14:40, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
Table
[edit]This table should be written in wiki markup, and something needs to be done about the fact that the text runs right up to the edge...makes it very difficult to read, and more than a little distracting. bcatt 05:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Naming Rights
[edit]"It was reported that 1st Mariner Bank will need to pay the city $75,000 for the next ten years to keep the naming rights to the Baltimore Arena."
- Is that $75K a year or $75K for the whole ten years? Either way, it isn't very much. 4.243.152.18 02:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Christina Aguilera
[edit]Christina Aguilera's concert tour of 2006 and 2007 wasn't taped for the DVD. The name of the DVD is "Back to Basics: Live and Down Under". As far as I can remember, 'Down Under' means Australia and not Maryland, USA[1] The concerts were taped in Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide and Acer Arena in Sydney both. Look at the back of the DVD, please! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.167.76.74 (talk • contribs) 21:52, 20 May 2009

The result of the proposal was moved. This appears uncontroversial, so I'm closing in the interests of backlog maintenance. Feel free to contact me with concerns. --BDD (talk) 20:23, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
1st Mariner Arena → Baltimore Arena – Arena's name was changed August 1, 2013. [2] Bes2224 (talk) 05:33, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support While a recent rename isn't always a good reason to move due to WP:COMMONNAME, Wikipedia generally doesn't use sponsor names for event venues when the name periodically changes. When St James' Park was renamed Sports Direct Arena, we didn't move the article, which is good, because the was changed back. Compare also to City of Manchester Stadium. While there are occasional COMMONNAME exceptions, such as Emirates Stadium, it seems wise to observe the sponsor-neutral principle here. Note that this also doesn't apply to stadia who only have a sponsor name, such as Rio Tinto Stadium. --BDD (talk) 16:44, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Requested move 7 March 2022

No consensus to move. After much-extended time for discussion, there is no consensus for a move at this time. Happily, however, this is a fluid situation, and there will likely be news reporting in the relatively short term more clearly announcing a name change. Local news stations do love reporting on local naming issues. BD2412 T 04:02, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Royal Farms Arena → Baltimore Arena – Social media for the arena yesterday scrubbed the name of the "Chicken Box" from PFPs, header images etc. It is reasonable to conclude the naming rights deal has ended with the arena's closure for renovation. However, I'm not aware of a local news article to that effect. Aresef (talk) 04:29, 7 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. — Amakuru (talk) 10:23, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support move, provided that evidence exists for the rights deal's expiry. O.N.R. (talk) 07:16, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- There's a story from BBJ now that refers to it as Baltimore Arena.Aresef (talk) 22:14, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose At least for the moment, barring any sourcing. We aren't the news and aren't in a rush -- unless sourcing is actually showing a different name now more commonly in use, we shouldn't be moving based on original research into a change in their social media names.--Yaksar (let's chat) 08:26, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. There is no independent news sources picking this up. We should wait for that before an article change.Mannysoloway (talk) 14:17, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Here's one, just today from the BBJ.Aresef (talk) 22:15, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. As late as last week, the Baltimore Sun was referring to it as "now Royal Farms Arena." Dohn joe (talk) 17:24, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 22:19, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nom, we should not use sponsored names for stadiums for this very reason. GiantSnowman 22:23, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Relisting note - it seems that more evidence is needed one way or the other, in the form of a definitive statement that the sponsor name has been dropped. Recent sources seem to be still mixed, as is the !voting, so this will be no consensus unless firm evidence is supplied. — Amakuru (talk) 10:23, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Personally, I do not think we should use sponsored names for venues. Additionally, quick google search shows several local articles referring to it as "Baltimore Arena".--dashiellx (talk) 13:24, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. While there are some signs that a rebranding might be coming (likely when the arena reopens in 2023 [1]) the sources today still seem to be using "Royal Farms Arena". 162 etc. (talk) 20:02, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
