Dear Lord. All the wikilinks in this article made my head spin. Each occurence of a first name does not need to be (and in fact, should not be) linked. I've added the {{cleanup}} tag since I don't have time to take care of it myself at the moment. --Darkwind (talk) 10:53, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Emmerdale character articles; invitation to discussion

[edit]

I've begun a discussion regarding the atrocious state of character articles within the Emmerdale universe. These articles stand to be deleted unless corrective action is taken. Please join the conversation at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Emmerdale#Serious problems across the board; let's start with character articles. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 16:00, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Surname

[edit]

I noticed the article was moved today without any hint of a discussion, so I thought I'd start one. As far as I'm aware the character's WP:COMMONNAME is Tate. She's only been married to Nikhil for a few months and most of her major storylines have occurred while she was called Tate. I decided to break out the hits box anyway:

Source Dingle Tate Sharma

I propose that the article name stays as it is for now. - JuneGloom Talk 20:14, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that this article has undergone a few page moves recently, so I'm opening this discussion to help stabilise the article. I believe Tate is still Charity's WP:COMMONNAME, as she has only been married to Declan for around five months. I think the article should be kept as Charity Tate, but I'll bring out the hits box again. - JuneGloom Talk 19:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be Charity Tate as well. She's not even credited as Macey anymore, she's credited as Dingle. However, Tate is the most common name so that's what it should be. ThisIsDanny (talk) 20:04, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I literally just noticed that she was called Dingle in one of the TV magazines. It might be worth adding Dingle to the hits box to compare. - JuneGloom Talk 22:15, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well Charity Dingle could work as well in my opinion, I just don't agree with it being changed to Macey. ThisIsDanny (talk) 22:40, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page name

[edit]

I noticed an earlier discussion regarding her surname and the page being moved etc. Would it be worth looking at this again as this was several years ago and Charity Dingle seems to be the most commonly used name in various media. CallyMc (talk) 17:07, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that Dingle appears to be her most commonly used name now. I'd be fine with the article moving back to that surname. Since I've done it twice here already, I've broken out the (updated) hits box once more and it seems to agree with us.
Pinging Raintheone and ThisIsDanny for their opinions. - JuneGloom07 Talk 21:55, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the hit stats below I think her common name is once again Dingle. I agree this needs to be changed now.Rain the 1 22:03, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am just going to put in my 2-cents worth for a sec. Although the hit stats direct to it being Dingle, I think its also important to remember that she was known as Tate from 2001–2012 (11 years) whilst she has only being known as dingle from 2000, 2014–2018 (5 years). I don't really know if that would mean anything but I think it is an important factor to consider. Also, what would most of the sources used in the article refer to her as? Could that be something else? — Hatio93 Talk 06:13, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you can go by the sources used in the article, as they will be made up of articles from her entire duration and will feature all four of her surnames (Dingle, Tate, Sharma, and Macey). Following the end of her marriage to Chris, the character was known by both the Tate and Dingle surnames from what I can tell from HighBeam. Upon her return in 2009, I think it was largely Tate, until 2012 when she married Jai Sharma, and then Declan Macey in 2014 (until 2015). So, she hasn't been Tate since 2012. I'm not counting the time she wasn't in the show btw. - JuneGloom07 Talk 12:56, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
She was off-screen for sometime and naturally there are less sources for that period. The sources in the article are just a fraction of what is actually available on/offline for the character. The table below does help show that maybe Tate is no longer her common name.Rain the 1 15:09, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would support a move to Charity Dingle. Soaper1234 - talk 16:02, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't saying since 2012, I was more saying until 2012. But, given what everyone has said, I think that Dingle would most likely we her WP:COMMONNAME now. I also support the move to Charity Dingle. — Hatio93 Talk 03:16, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did cover her whole duration in my reply. After her marriage to Chris ended, she was known by a mixture of Tate and Dingle from what I can see. Upon her reintroduction, it was Tate until she married Jai in 2012. But anyway, there is a consensus to move the page and I think the discussion has been open long enough (almost a month). - JuneGloom07 Talk 16:41, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@AnemoneProjectors: Could you possibly move this article to Charity Dingle based on the above discussion and consensus, please? - JuneGloom07 Talk 17:25, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
