Versions

The versions section should be changed to reflect each title separately, and the platforms for which it has been released, along with release dates (multiple if different per platform).

There's a lot of good information for previous versions on the MobyGames site linked in the External Links section. Can we reference any of that without breaking any rules? --ZeroWiki 166.33.94.6 14:02, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, yeah, in the sense that the series started with Chessmaster 2000, it's the ninth edition. And if you count the games listed at MobyGames, you get the result that it is the thirteenth edition. But the "10th Edition" still is the one after Chessmaster 9000, which was the point. --ZeroOne 14:31, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Pre-Chessmaster Chessmaster?

Searching for "chessmaster" on the World of Spectrum website [1] gets results for two ZX Spectrum games: The Chessmaster 2000 and a game titled Chess Master. This second game was published by a company called Serin Software in 1984, two years before the first edition of Chessmaster was published. Interesting that lawyers never got involved after the Chessmaster games got popular. DT29 06:33, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

The Web vs. Chessmaster 8000

My copy of Chessmaster 9000 includes the game "The Web vs. Chessmaster 8000." I was planning on adding it to the "notable games" section, but apparently it isn't quite so notable because I can hardly find anything about it on the net; just some throwaway references on message boards. I'm sure it's not quite as notable as Kasparov vs. the World or Larry Christiansen vs. Chessmaster 9000, but it's amazing how little record I can find of it, given the organizing and publicity required for these kinds of matches. It's like it never even happened. The year is given as 2001, but the PGN doesn't give a location. (The game select screen gives the location as "Discovery 1", but this is a mistake -- "Discovery 1" is the location of the game between Frank Poole and HAL 9000 from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is also included in Chessmaster.) The merge was probably a good idea but now there is image and info box overload on the page. I can't see the benefit of having the second infobox tied in with the two or three line section. 3 screenshots (2 from the same edition, none of them the latest) seems a bit excessive given the length of the article and it isn't clear what critical commentary they're providing.--Crossmr (talk) 11:49, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

New publisher

Sales Figures Lack Substantiation

Hi, the article claims that "It is the best-selling chess franchise in history, with more than five million units sold as of 2002." however the footnote provides no support for these assertions. Do you think I should remove them? I looked back at earlier versions of the footnote-referenced page at archive.org and couldn't find any support for it there either.
