Armstrong CCM

[edit]

The one thing that is unclear is the relationship between CCM and Armstrong. In my "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Motorcycling" it says that "CCM became part of the Armstrong group in 1980", but Clews does not mention any of this on his CCM site history, and haven't found any other reference to date. The "MT-500" went through a few manufacturers in its life. Does anyone know more? Seasalt 11:32, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure in the intro to the Bill Lawless's "Rolling Thunder" [23] , Bill was citing the recent acquisition of CCM by Armstrong (a UK defence company of the time IIRC), as the triumph of Clews in rescuing the remnants of the British off road motorcycle industry and securing it a safe future (or words to that effect). Must be something to do with he huge order by the army for bikes (therefore defence industry gazumps them), as IIRC Harley brought the bike off them later. If you're still after details, there are several CCM fans on a "vintage" (ie any thing other than new) MX forum i know. Pickle 16:06, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not having a British library card, I don't have access to the catalogue that u cite. What year did CCM become part of Armstrong? (1980?) MT-500 clear enough, just the who owned who when stuff that's cloudy.Seasalt 11:25, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Banks

[edit]

Anybody want to do an entry on John Banks? He's mentioned here in the CCM entry; I did a search and there appears to be no article on him. I added his name to the John Banks disambiguation page. RUReady2Testify 21:31, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much off the top of my head, although my dad probably has the books on the man and can tell stories! Be Bold! and do mate ;) Pickle 01:42, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
