... that Colleen Barrett was the first woman to serve as the president of a major airline and the first woman to receive the Tony Jannus Award? Sources: [1][2]
Reviewed: Exempt-First time DYK
Comment: First DYK nomination. Feel free to correct nomination if I've done something wrong! Article has image, but it isn't great quality.
Welcome to DYK! This is a new and long enough expansion and it meets all criteria. Your hook fact is present, and hook sources cited, in the article, and the hook is quite interesting. You do not need a QPQ. Not DYK-related but a general note for the future: Wikipedia section headers are in sentence case, not title case. This is good to go. I know some people recommend specific days for their DYK hook to be posted. I didn't originally have a specific day in mind, but realized that the 2019 Tony Jannus award will be awarded this Friday, November 15, so that could be a good day to post this. Not sure how final the queues are for this Friday and understand it's probably too short of notice to make such a suggestion, but thought I'd add that here. Hi, I came by to promote this, but it is really top-heavy on "firsts" and isn't so hooky as a result (has anyone even heard of that award?). You have a lot of material about her and her accomplishments in the article. Perhaps you could start the hook with "... that Colleen Barrett, the first woman president of a major airline, did this and this..." Yoninah (talk) 22:21, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. I'd counter that the Tony Jannus award is well-known in Aviation circles, and I do think both parts of the hook are interesting. However, I understand how the hook appears "first"-heavy, and there are several additional facts which would make good blurbs. I've proposed several below:
Alt2a ... that Colleen Barrett started her career as a legal secretary and ultimately became the President of Southwest Airlines, the first woman to become President of a major air carrier? Source: [4]
Alt2b ... that while on leave from her position as a legal secretary, Colleen Barrett joined Southwest Airlines and rose to become the first female president of a major airline? Source: [5]
Of these alt-blurbs, I like Alt1 the most EXCEPT that is doesn't mention her being the first female president of an airline, which seems a shame to omit. But I couldn't figure out how to word it in a way that incorporated that info without going over on character count. Kenmelken (talk) 15:43, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
