Fair use rationale for Image:Cosas.JPG

Image:Cosas.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:24, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Pre-GAN Comments

This article is currently a GA nominee. However, what will inhibit this article to getting GA status is due to no references; only external links. Please provide sources before any official reviewers will come to your way and might fail this one. --BritandBeyonce (talk) 09:40, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Quick-failed GA nomination

First, please note that the GA nomination was not completed, as the {{GA nominee}} template was not placed on this talk page. It was however, nominated at the nominations page. Any article that has "a complete lack of reliable sources" must be failed immediately and does not require an in-depth review, according to the quick-fail criteria of GA. The GA criteria unequivocally requires that nominated articles maintain good standards of verifiability, and provide,

"...references to all sources of information, and at minimum contains a section dedicated to the attribution of those sources in accordance with the guide to layout" and "at minimum, provides in-line citations from reliable sources for direct quotations, statistics, published opinion, counter-intuitive or controversial statements that are challenged or likely to be challenged, and contentious material relating to living persons"

Not only does this article lack inline citations, it has no references to reliable sources. References should be laid out in a separate section, and citations to these references provided where necessary. The lack of source material is especially unconscionable considering that it is the biography of a living person. Please provide references according to the guidelines of WP:V and WP:RS and carefully review the GA criteria before choosing to renominate the article. If you feel the result of this review was in error, you may request a reassessment. Thanks for your work so far, VanTucky talk 19:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Also I removed GA templates to reflect that this article has not yet been through the proper process. David Pro (talk) 15:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Original research

The article asserts:
This album's production year is mistakenly listed as 1998 by iTunes and Window Media Information (via Windows Media Player). This can easily be seen by going to iTunes and searching for the album or playback of the physical CD on either iTunes or Windows Media Player. The mistaken production year was most likely inserted as 1998 due to the fact that this was the year Enrique Iglesias was signed by Universal who bought out all his projects from Fonovisa, now known as Univision Records and re-released all his prior albums under the Universal label.
Paragraph has been omitted. Oskarg956 (talk) 16:29, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

New Single?

Supposedly Enrique has released/will release a new single off the re-release of Insomniac. I see no mention of said re-release on this page or Insomniac's page, but here's a link to the single: http://jayosflows.blogspot.com/2008/05/can-you-hear-him_17.html enrique brother is julio And if someone could track down some citeable info about the re-release... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.224.144.214 (talk) 02:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Too full of bias and trivia.

I find this article too full of unnecessary bias and trivias that do not contribute to a real encyclopedic content under wikipedia standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.11.38.122 (talk) 07:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

This article is missing more information there is more to enriques life.

I have found no issue with this article, because many other sites, even the Ask Encyclopedia (http://www.ask.com/music/artist/Enrique-Iglesias/169286) has very little on his early life besides what is stated here. I doubt there are even records of his early life currently, despite his middle (possibly high) school education and where he went to college. If you have an issue with the article, please research before you critisize. Thank you. Hougmaku —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hougmaku (talkcontribs) 20:11, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfinished sentence????

I was looking at the article and found this:

Iglesias has also donated the It must be love to raise funds for the Haiti Earthquake's victims. The song has been released to Music For Relief, which is a charity organization founded by Linkin Park who is very generous.[19][20]

The sentence where it says: Iglesias has also donated the isn't finish, instead it goes on to It must be love to raise funds for the Haiti Earthquake's victims. The song has been released to Music For Relief, which is a charity organization founded by Linkin Park who is very generous.[19][20] Can someone find the ending to the sentence and fix it? I'm afraid to do it... Thanks. Bakzin 21:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bakzin (talkcontribs)

Two and a Half Men

[1] I changed the mention of him in Two and a Half Men from Cameo appearance to guest starred. From my understanding of what a cameo is and checking the article appears to concur with this, it's not a particularly accurate description of his role. For starters, he was credited AFAIK. More importantly, cameo implies a very brief appearance in the episode (or whatever) whereas his character was actually a resonably significant part in that episode (even if irrelevant to the series). I also don't see any reason to mention Charlie Sheen is in Two and a Half Men. People can check the article if they're interested. I replaced it with the role he played in the episode which while not important, does clarify that he wasn't playing himself. Nil Einne (talk) 18:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

What is the proof that he is a U.S. citizen?? Ciociabasia 21:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

That question is what drew me here and it has not been answered. Is this hottie an American or not?????--69.37.3.59 20:59, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I remember him saying in one interview that he has working-visa, so he actually isn`t American citizen

All right, you heard that interview, but you provide no references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.38.138.58 (talk) 01:55, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Well actually the burden of proof is on proving that he is an American citizen. Not on proving that he is not. I think all references to that should be removed until a source is found supporting the claim. - EstoyAquí(tce) 19:03, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

I have added that the Maltese citizenship that he helds is only an honorary one, as per source article. As far as I know, neither he nor his father and brother have applied for US Citizenship, despite being long term US residents. It might have to do with the fact that Spain, so far, does not allow dual nationalities and they would have to renounce to the Spanish nationality completely.Amj1967 (talk) 22:45, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Whatever source is used for this must be reliable. I didn't see the cited source as reliable, so I've removed it pending provision of such a source. Rodhullandemu 22:57, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

To take part in a such ceremony, he would have to "relinquish all loyalty he has to a foreign King, Price, Emporor....or other of the same category" or something like that. I'd love to see it happen, then the media across the Iberophonic world would have so much dirt to write about. He hates the King. He loves Chavez. I dont it happening. Merely for being born, I am only guessing he could choose to be a National of the Philipines.....or maybe even Israel. Edit request from Dem4wiki2, 18 January 2011

{{edit semi-protected}} The song "Tonight (I'm Loving You)" is not on the album "Euphoria" as stated in this article. Other pages in Wikipedia (linked from this article), for the album and the song, explain that the song was released much later than the album, digitally only, in two versions, one of which contains explicit lyrics. I was misled by this article, created a wiki account to correct it, and find that (for good reason) this is a protected article. After awhile I'll become a credible user and be able to correct these things myself, as I find them. Thanks!

My verbatim suggestion for this correction is as follows:

FROM "Another English single from the album "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" broke into the top 10 on the Billboard charts becoming no 6. on January 7, 2011.[21]"

TO "An English single released digitally-only after the album "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" broke into the top 10 on the Billboard charts becoming no 6. on January 7, 2011.[21]"

In addition, the hyperlink on "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" links to a page with the explicit lyric right there in the title, which is rather shocking and potentially offensive for bookstore personnel who are helping customers to find this song. My verbatim suggestion to improve this would be:

FROM <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonight_(I%27m_Lovin%27_You)">"Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)"</a>

TO "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonight_(I%27m_Lovin%27_You)">Link to song page with explicit title and lyrics.</a>

Thanks for all you do to improve Wikipedia. I've decided I can help, too, and am joining your ranks today. Dem4wiki2 (talk) 18:38, 18 January 2011 (UTC) Dem4wiki2 (talk) 18:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Partly done: I changed the part about the album it was on, although with more detail taken from the song's page. As for the song title, Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, and thus we don't put disclaimers. I am, however, concerned that the other article is titled incorrectly; I'm going to raise a discussion on that article's talk page about it. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:17, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Edit request from WantedToAdd, 9 March 2011

{{edit semi-protected}} please change: The first English single from the album, "I Like It", which features Cuban rapper Pitbull, to: The first English single from the album, "I Like It", which features Cuban American rapper Pitbull,

because Pitbull was born in the USA and is American. Referring to him by his heritage ("hyphenated"), as is common in US, as Cuban American, would be acceptable too.

WantedToAdd (talk) 04:15, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Apparently, although ethnically Cuban, his nationality is American. He neither has nor (apparently) claims dual citizenship with both Cuba and Amerian. Thus, it should actually say, "American rapper Pitbull". I'm just going by what are apparently the rapper's wishes unless there's a verifiable source out there that says he wants to be a Cuban citizen. If you'd like any further help, contact me on my user talk page. You might instead want to put a {{help me}} template up on your own user talk, or put the {{edit semi-protected}} template back up on this page and either way someone will be along to help you. :) Banaticus (talk) 19:55, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

spanish version of the article

i think one of the best and most reliable sources that can help this page to improve is the spanish version of it. i think that page has way more information. you should just ask someone to translate it for you. i think even if the english page had have much information as the spanish version it would be very better than this!--91.99.153.113 (talk) 17:31, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

The spanish version of the article is more or less the same as the english version. Most of it is a direct translation of the original english article. The biggest difference is that it's split up into more sections (as this article once was) making it seem longer. There is some information that's unique to that version that could be carried over (and I can see a few things that definitely should) but mostly it's info that I don't think is too relevant to a main article when there's other articles in english which could cover that same information. If a user wants a more detailed description of a single or its music video they'll click on the link to the wiki article about that single. Likewise if they want to research his awards they'll follow the link to that article. 16 April 2011

adding information!

add this information to the introducing section:

Born in Madrid, raised in Miami, not only is Enrique an international superstar in his own right, but hehas become a one-man ambassador of global culture with his distinctive fusion of pop beats, R&B hooks, Latin rhythms and rock bombast.

For over a decade ENRIQUE IGLESIAS’ Latin-flavoured pop has carved its way into the hearts of music fans across the globe, selling over 55 million albums in both English and Spanish.

Enrique burst on to the music scene in 1995 winning a Grammy for his first ever Spanish release (Enrique Iglesias) and in 1999 his eponymous English language debut went on to sell six million albums, go double-platinum in the US, and achieve gold or platinum status in 32 countries. Since then he has had a string of successful albums, from Escape (2001), 7 (2003) and Insomniac (2007) to his Greatest Hits album (2008), while his sold-out world tours have established him as a captivating live performer. In the US he is one of the biggest-selling Spanish artists of all time, with over 12 million albums sold and 19 #1 Billboard Latin hits across the Americas.

its from here. its reliable and it has more information!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Farid1374 (talkcontribs) 17:31, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Year He Signed Contract?

I took out 'before the turn of the millenium" to avoid confusion about whether the current millenium started in 2000 or 2001. This was use to refer to when he signed the $40,000,000 contract, but is not clear whether the contract was signed in 1999 or before, or in 2000, which, depending on which year the millenium started, could refer to either possibility. It would be good if someone could put in the exact year he signed the contract. I know this seems nitpicky, but this is an encyclopedia.John ISEM (talk) 02:42, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

(born May 8, 1975), simply known as Enrique Iglesias, is a Spanish-American singer-songwriter, actor, and record producer. Iglesias started his career in the mid-1990s on an American Spanish Language record label Fonovisa which helped turn him into one of the biggest stars in Latin America and the Hispanic Market in the United States becoming the biggest seller of Spanish-language albums of that decade. By the turn of the millennium he made a successful crossover into the mainstream market and signed a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for an unprecedented US $68,000,000 with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. In 2010, he parted with Interscope and signed with another Universal Music Group label, Universal Republic Records. In late 2012, Republic Records was revived after eleven years of being dormant, shuttering Universal Republic Records and taking all the artists from that label to Republic Records, including Iglesias. In 2001, he released his single Hero, which he later performed to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Iglesias has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time.[3] He has had five Billboard Hot 100 top five singles, including two number-ones, and holds the record for producing 25 number-one Spanish-language singles on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. He has also had 13 number-one songs on Billboard's Dance charts, more than any other single male artist.[4] Altogether, Iglesias has amassed more than 70 number-one rankings on the various Billboard charts.[5] Billboard has called him The King of Latin Pop and The King of Dance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.119.173.80 (talk) 13:35, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Date system

Enrique Iglesias is Spanish thus this article should use the dmy date system as Spain uses dmy and this article should follow WP:STRONGNAT.

Birth year

Can we stop changing the birth year from what is the established one? Please discuss it here and come up with some reliable sources for one or the other of the years. Thanks. Keith D (talk) 22:17, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

I have looked for any RS sources that could support the other one; might continue but for now the only date I can find support for is the one I added. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 19:48, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

I have semi-protected this for now - to give time to discuss, if autoconfirmed users continue to edit-war I will raise to to admin only protection. Keith D (talk) 10:58, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Sounds good; this seems like a weird thing to be reverting as there aren't any sources that support the opposing view. And no engagement here either. Just very strange. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 14:35, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

His birthday is indeed May 8th and he was born in 1975. He is currently 40 years old. Don't know why people keep changing this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.138.1.121 (talk) 01:53, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

His birth year is 1975 there are many sources indicating that. http://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/enrique-iglesias-4270.php Dkingz (talk) 23:24, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

I have to agree with this. There are multiple sources that give the birth year as 1975, yet there is just that single source claiming 1976. Unfortunately an active editor on this article continues to ignore the multiple sources that say 1975 in favor of a single source claiming 1976. Per WP:RS and WP:V, the article should reflect the majority of sources over a single source. JOJ Hutton 14:41, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Is there anyway we can change his birth back to the original year 1975? We all have given our reliable sources.

free enrique?

To editor MMN2001: I have already reported you, so expect to be blocked shortly. I'd just like to emphasize that Wikipedia requires reliable sources that substantiate claims. You cannot post here that the sky is blue because there's an Instagram post with what you think is a blue sky. We don't allow self-published sources and the sources we do allow have to actually make the claim; you can't reason it out. I know this may seem odd to you but Wikipedia operates on consensus, which you don't have. Chris Troutman (talk) 22:00, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

I find lots of this as being dealing in mere trivialities!

A small minority of Filipinos are also Latinos, and so, it is unscientific to argue about whether they are or they are not. It is a fact that the Philippines were a Spanish colony for centuries. It is also true that for a long time, the Philippines where not ruled directly from Spain, but rather via the Spanish Viceroy in MEXICO, or all places. The Spanish made lots of trans-Pacific voyages to maintain contact and trade between Mexico and the Philippines.

It is also notable that there is a sprinkling of Spanish words in the Filipino national language (such as the word for "ice"), but there are far more English words in it, from the American influences. The US took a much more active role in the Philippines, with the active goal of preparing the Philippines for independence, which was established on July 4, 1946, a date that had been promised well-before even the Japanese occupation of 1942-45. The Philippines and the USA agreed that the original plan could be carried through on schedule, in spite of that interruption in progress.

People who argue about his citizenship obviously do not understand the BIG difference between a U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. a holder of a so-called "green card") and a U.S. citizen. Also, someone can be a Permanent Resident who is applying for U.S. citizenship, or a Permanent Resident who intendends to hold that status indefinitely, e.g. until the end of his/her life, and to remain a citizen of another country forever. Both of these are quite allowed under the laws of the United States of America.

I also find it foolish to discuss whom he does or does not date, becasue that is his own personal business. When he marries someone, that becomes a public, legal fact.

==Enrique's mother is not a Spanish Mestiza. She is a Filipina of of Spanish Descent.

I agree, she is not technically a mestiza because according to her website, because her father is only a filipino. and her mother is of malay descent.

Changed 'married to' in 'currently dates' since this is a gossip rumor. It is not confirmed that Enrique married Anna Kournikova.

Enrique is a Hispano Filipino not a American Filipino! (And he is NOT a Latino (-;)

I actualy agree with you that Enrique is not Latino. He is from Spain and Spain is not a Latin-American country. Most people however mistakenly view Spanish people as being "Latino" including Enrique himself in recent years. Rather than rock the boat I think it'd be best to just keep his desription as being Latin. (Someone would come change it back anyway.) Besides Enrique is far more popular in Latin America than he is or ever will be in Spain and arguebly spent more time in South and Middle America, plus he often used to say he considered himself to be more Mexican than Spanish.

Enrique's blood is Spaniard (from Spain) and Filipino (from the Philippines) ancestry, please don't change the facts. Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.104.191.216 (talk) 14:54, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Somebody ask about his passport, because I think it's Spanish rather than American, regardless of where he lives. (If you keep the bread in the garage, does it become a car?)

Enrique is a legal US resident. (Despite claiming otherwise in a few interviews). He's legaly lived in the US since he was six years old. After he returned to the States after recording his first album in Canada there was some trouble at the border. It was all sorted out and his passport was supposedly been said to have been a US one. [This is questionable]

A legal resident of any country does not carry a passport of that country, as this would mean he is a citizen of the country, and therefore no longer merely a "permanent" legal resident, but rather, and actual citizen of that country.

How is the relationship from Enrique Iglesias to the Philippines?

--Intramuros 14:39, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

His mother, Isabel Preysler, is from the Phillipines, although she has lived in Spain for a very long time. She's noted for marrying well and Ferrero Rocher chocolate adverts.

Should Enrique's genre be changed to just read "Pop"? I don't want to sound strange but does Enrique's music really qualify as latin? His first three Spanish albums were simply pop albums sang in Spanish. Ironicaly Enrique first started incorporating some latin styles on his first English album but it was still mostly what most would describe as pop. He also included some more traditional latin sounds on some of the songs from Quizas but again it was still mostly pop.

Just because Enrique is Spanish and has dabbled in Latin music does it make him a Latin artist? After all, Whitney Houston has recorded some Gospel songs but is she then classed as a Gospel singer?

Enrique was born in Madrid Andrew ranfurly (talk) 20:22, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Enrique Iglesias is,indeed, latin. But not the idea of latin you have in America,I'll explain it. Many of you think that being latin is a race or ethnicity but you are wrong. Latin is an spanish word. Being latin means that you speak a language origined by latin ( the dead language of the Romans ) like spanish, Italian, FRENCH, ROMANIAN and PORTUGUESE. It's not about the skin, the eyes, the lips or the hair. It's just a damm spanish term to include all the people that speaks a language heritage of latin, that's all. There's no race called latin. Here in Spain we are 75 percent Caucasic,25 percent jews ( maybe u don't know that's also a race ) and 5 percent gypsis. That's why people that speaks french or romanian as native language are latins too. In the case of Enrique Iglesias, he is a mixture of Caucasic or Jewd on his father side and Filipino on his mother side. When will you learn that latin is not a race. It's like If I call you Germanic cos english evoled from that old language. The problem is that it's easier for you to say that every person that speaks spanish is latin cos in LatinAmerica there such a mixture of races you would drive yourself crazy.Other problem of english is that you don't have a unique word that allows each country of LatinAmerica that's why you use the word spanish for every country and that's another mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.153.5.228 (talk) 01:18, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Label Change

Has Iglesias changed to Geffen Records? His offical site has a Geffen logo, and he is on the offical Geffen Records site. Has he changed? User:Beagle5589 4:09 P.M., August 14, 2006.

It's not a label change per se, Geffen is part of the Universal Music Group and is owned by Interscope. For a while it was dissolved completely into Interscope but for various business reasons now acts more independently from Interscope. So I guess we can either leave it as Interscope or change it Geffen (or put something like Interscope/Geffen). - 2006 82.42.209.144 03:55, 3 December 2006

Hispano Filipino

Iglesias is a Hispano Filipino. He is not an American and he his not a Latino. Please provide facts to support your disputed statements. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.104.198.118 (talk) 09:32, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I would disagree. He was born in Spain and so he is Spanish. Yes his mother was Filipino but if you read the Wikipedia entry for Hispano-Filipino it implies that the person 'mostly born and raised in the Philippines'. Perhaps he is Filipino-Hispanic. In his biography it details his maternal Filipino parentage.
Donald Trump has a Scottish mother but I wouldn't describe him as a Scot-American! Andrew ranfurly (talk) 22:27, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
