Current Plot

A section like that should not exist within the main article. C Ronald 04:46, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Maybe we should have a story arcs page. - STAREYe 18:24, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Any ideas for arc names? Eisenwald Arc could work, but what do we call the other three?- STAREYe 18:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks like someone has already put up a Story Arc page. Nice C Ronald 05:02, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

there should be a page about magic i can start one but some will have to make it better

I've edited the links section to External links. Now it follows the format from the Naruto article. I'm not much of a fan of Naruto, but their article has a very good format, so I suggest we try to follow it for the rest of the article. C Ronald 04:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Magic Page

I think we should wait for that page till we have a lot more of information and chapters. For now the information will stay with the charactersCuttyflam 22:14, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Fairy Tail Article

What is up with this article? It has practically no info and just redirects. Other pages shouldn't have more info than the main article of a manga. This needs to be reworked. Gune (talk) 20:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Official Names

Should these pages display just the names the scanners came up with, or should they also have the official names?132.170.31.180 (talk) 15:23, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

They should display official names. If you do that though you need evidence that they are indeed official and not made up. I had removed names somebody said were official because they didn't source anything. Gune (talk) 16:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

In the American Graphic Novels, published by DEL RAY they have stated that they get their translated names from the author himself. They state this in the 2nd volume.Discobird (talk) 03:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

As such, I've changed the names to the translation listed in the Del Rey novels. MOS dictates we go with the names listed in the English publication regardless, but these happen to be completely official. -Mr. Toto (talk) 20:09, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Regarding Erza Scarlet, ist this really her official name? In the anime series episode 41 her tombstone reads "Elza Scarlet". --80.141.177.212 (talk) 15:07, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Fairy Tail Wiki

I've recently started a Fairy Tail Wiki over at Wikia and, since Wikipedia won't let me put the link on their page without permission, was wondering if you guys will do so for me. This isn't for advertising purposes, just to give attention to it and to those who would like to help work on it.

Heres the link: http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

It's still in construction as you can see but am hoping to expand on it little by little. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Retro7 (talkcontribs) 20:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Why not just paste and copy the imformation from the articles in Wikipedia into that Wikia, and later edit it? Or does that goes against the Terms Of Policy here in Wikipedia?AngelicMasterMind (talk) 22:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Wizards OR Mages??

Well i was wondering about this, what is the term to call a person with magical abilities in the Fairy Tail Universe?? I read the 2 Volumes released by Del Rey and all the other Chapters, scanlated by Fansites. But in Del Rey they only refer/call people by "Wizard" ,but in other sources, like the Scanlated versions of the Series done by those fansites, and like here in Wikipedia they refer/call people as "Mages" (Magicians).Iam not sure myself how big a difference is between Magicians and Wizards, but which term is more correct to describe Humans with Magic Powers in Fairy Tail??AngelicMasterMind (talk) 22:44, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm looking at the first volume published in English, and the people are referred to as Wizards. I haven't caught the term witch anywhere yet, so I don't know. Either way we're going to go with the English, so we could probably change mages to wizards. ~ Hyakurei (talk) 23:49, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Redirects and merging

I'm looking at this article and it's currently classified as a stub. At this rate I don't think we should have that many links to other pages, until we expand on the main article. I think we could merge all or part of the other articles into the main one, and keep it that way until expansion. Any thoughts? Discuss any merging here please. ~ Hyakurei (talk) 23:54, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree in the sense that they were both split too soon, but at this point, both are far too long to be merged back in, so I would strongly oppose remerging them. And really, the splits alone aren't a good excuse for why this article is a stub (high level, to be sure, but still a stub). The problem is, unfortunately, one suffered by many articles: its mostly edited by fans who concentrate purely on things like characters and plot instead of the real-world info. So rather than worrying about trying to do a merge that isn't needed either, I'd say work on those sections that are lacking content and need work, starting with those real world sections like reception and media. If production info is available in the manga or articles, then that should also be added. See Tokyo Mew Mew for a good guideline on what's needed, tone, sourcing, order, etc. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:23, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

References

Should it be mentioned that fairy tail has lots of references to his other work Rave (eg. Plue, Zieg, TCM sword)? --109.110.26.67 (talk) 18:48, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Could we please have citation for it being based on One Piece. It seems very different to me, so I'm removing it for now. 59.86.176.202 (talk) 08:58, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

There's no citation because its not, however some fans believe that there are similarities (have to admit, there are some, but it certainly doesn't go as far as being "based" on it) --109.110.9.94 (talk) 19:41, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Music section

I've made some pretty significant changes to the music section. I tried by best to clean up the English, which was a real chore, and I also changed some information about composers. The section originally stated that Yasuharu Takanashi only produced the two original soundtracks to the anime, while Edward Elgar and Sergei Rachmaninoff composed the music for them. This is completely not true. Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" appears in volume 1 of the soundtrack and is arranged by Takanashi, and Rachmaninoff's "Tower of Heaven ~ from Piano Concerto No.2 in C Minor Op.18" appears in volume 2 (and I don't know if this was arranged or not). Besides those and two other tracks in volume 2 arranged by two other people, Takanashi composed and produced ALL the music in the two soundtracks. Crediting composers whose works were arranged by a soundtrack's composer(s) is pretty nonstandard from what I've seen (that is, you generally won't see any sources listing a composer as a main credit when their work was simply arranged), so I've just removed all that information and credited Takanashi. If someone wants to add very detailed information about the music, just make sure to get it right. VGMdb has fairly detailed information about both of these soundtracks coming straight from the credits in their respective booklets, so check there before writing anything.

Proposal to remove or movepicture

The picture of the English VAs isn't really needed, no other Anime pages has it, it's making the page look untidy, the OVA section doesn't have it's lines in the right place. July 9 2012 B rank assessment

Issues that need fixing
  • Manga sections could use some refs for dates. For the special cross over, see if you can source it to its issue.
  • Anime section states time issues for Animax Asia but a source does not seem to exist for it. Same with the statement about AXN. Citation issue also noted in that section.
  • Not a big deal but the English letters attached with the Kanji should not be in all caps.
  • The Taiwanese website for animax requests a user and password.
  • Some references are missing publishers and are not consistent in their datings.
Suggestions
  • I'm not really sure about this but for video games, if something is licensed for Canada and USA, you can combine and label them as North America. I'm unsure about combining Australia and New Zealand as the Pacific Islands Forum though. Infobox seems messy, consider imitating Tokyo Mew Mew's style.
  • Consider merging the production section into the manga section

That's everything I can think of so far. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 10:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism Reverts

Is there a reason why the plot section and link to the list of characters was not reverted after being removed in one of the recent bouts of vandalism this page has encountered? The other issues were reverted pretty quickly but this one was never restored, and IMO seems to be a rather important part commonly found on other such pages. It also leaves the character list orphaned. the_one092001 (talk) 23:40, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Is the anime over?

This article really needs to clarify this. Are there plans for a 5th (?) season? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Was the series intended to be only 48 episodes?

This wiki contains an interesting claim that if verified with reliable sources could be added here: "Initially, the anime was supposed to last one season - until episode 48, but the series' massive popularity overturned this; it continued onto a second season of 47 episodes, a third season of 55 episodes and to a fourth season consisting of 25 episodes.". --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Well we did get a video post on Youtube recently of Todd Haberkorn getting his Fairy Tail tattoo which means Funimation has dubbed 100 episodes. When that will be released is unknown. -AngusWOOF (talk) 06:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Can someone add a section on the money side of Fairy Tail? How much money did it cost to make the anime series, manga and movies? Who was involved in financing it? How much profit did each make? And how much did each of the key staff and writers, directors, animators and illustrators earn from it?

Who owns the copyright to Fairy Tail? The manga writer Hiro Mashima, the anime writer Masashi Sogo, the manga publisher Kodansha, the animation studios that made the anime, or a producer or production company involved in financing it if there was one?

How much say does Hiro Mashima have in deciding what's written in the scripts for anime episodes? Does he have any say at all?

If no one knows, could someone reading this ask them if they ever visit an anime convention where there's a guest panel for Fairy Tail cast and crew? Lindisp (talk) 14:07, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I doubt that the business details concerning the breakdown of earnings of the participants will ever be made available or whether any of that is even notable, but the production can be noted if you can find some sources, usually interviews with producers and directors, regarding arrangements and creative control. The box office figures were posted for the movie article. As for copyrights, I'm assuming it's whoever they list in the episode and the book. -AngusWOOF (talk) 18:20, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Ecchi

I believe that this series does qualify for the Ecchi genre. Fanservice is a very reoccurring element in the series alot more than most Shonens. Even though the fanservice isn't straight up adult rated its still a regular asset that occurs throughout the series. Other features such as the OVAs and movie also have it much heavier and even have the fanservice as a focus. I propose we add Ecchi to list of genres. Even though the amount of Ecchi is on the softcore side such as Love Hina it definitely has way more Ecchi than any other regular shonen does. - SuperTiencha (talk) 16:41, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

First, I'd like to see a cite for the claim that FT is ecchi (otherwhise we are dealing with ORish territory). Second. It is true that OVAs/movies are more racy (and those I'd agree are ecchi), but this is a regular trend with many shows. At what point, however, does a show become ecchi? Is GitS ecchi? Yet I'd argue that the amound of nudity in GitS is the same as in Fairy Tail the movie... with regards to the regular show (manga...), yes, there are some elements of fanservice, but how much is enough to make this show fall into that category? For now I'd agree to the word ecchi only if accompanying by a footnote that would specify it refers primarily to OVAs (and manga, I guess?).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 17:47, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
per infobox template: Genres should be based on what reliable sources list them as and not on personal interpretations. Limit of the three most relevant genres in accordance with MOS:A&M So unless you have reliable sources that primarily classify the show as an ecchi genre, I'd remove it. It's also on the WP:COATRACK. Oh, and it has about as much fanservice as the often compared One Piece. -AngusWOOF (talk) 21:18, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Fairy Tail has significantly more Fanserivce than One Piece does. One Piece didn't get fanservice until years into the series and even still its not that common in it and is nowhere as overboard. Fairy Tail has atleast 2-3 fanservice moments around every 5 chapters/episodes and even has OVAs focused on it. Fairy Tail even goes overboard with it at times such as having a recent chapter where Lucy got striped and shown naked the entire chapter, Lucy and Cana's bath scenes together and alot of the outfits characters wear emphasize on cleavage and sometimes butt. The usage of fanservice in the series happens very often and sometimes the fanservice even goes higher than some other Ecchi genre series. - SuperTiencha (talk) 02:41, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Well it could have more fanservice than some rom-coms, but what do the critics and reviewers say? And is it more prominent than its other categories? Here's Deb Aoki's About.com review for manga Volume 2: [1] -AngusWOOF (talk) 04:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Classify it as ecchi or not the episodes from around 100 onward have a lot of fanservice. The Tenrou Island arc in particular, starting with the bath scene and increasing from there with Urtear being the prime example, going so far as a detailed crotch shot in 106. The only reason I wouldn't use this classification is that even in these fanservice heavy episodes there are only one or two times panties are shown but numerous opportunities where shadow was used instead. It really seems to be testing how close it can get without gaining this label. 86.7.28.227 (talk) 19:51, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Infobox streamlining

Can we change the 7 OVA mentions in the infobox to bullet lists as discussed in Talk:Attack on Titan#Excessive infoboxes and convert the excess data into prose? I dont think the infobox should be unnecessarily overlong for these episodes even if the series itself hasn't much else media to show for it. —KirtZMessage 20:06, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Anime - Continued run

The latest press release of the Fairy Tail anime lists the upcoming episodes of the new anime series starting with "Episode 176", continuing where the last anime left off. For this reason, I feel we should do what the Gin Tama page does and merge the "Fairy Tail New Series" section into the original anime section; we keep the "Original airdate" as is, but under that we add the new, ongoing airdate. User:Immblueversion (talk) 14:07, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

The Sequel is technically different, and i would say, it's a whole class below the original: Very cheap animation, lacking face expressions, faces aren't even representing the original, noisy gag-focussed boring storylines. They must have cut the budget quite a lot. Anyway, just by this reason, it should never be mixed. YMMV.

Why aren't we linking to the useful resource that is Fairy Tail Wikia [2]? Please note that the argument that fansites like this violate WP:EL is not valid, I asked about this at Wikipedia:External_links/Noticeboard#Honorverse_wikia recently (where I note the example of Narutopedia Wiki, linked uncontroversialy from Naruto article). So if there are no other objections, I'll add a link to it to our elink section. As for number 12 at WP:ELNO, it is slightly bigger than the Young Justice wikia ([3]) which was approved at [4]), seems stable and is actively maintained. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:14, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

The argument that fansites usually violate WP:EL was not contradicted by the discussion you cite, and your efforts to spam Wikia links across multiple pages are inappropriate. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:56, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
User:Nikkimaria: please explain to me why a link to Fairy Tail wikia is inappopriate, given that Naruto links to Narutopedia, and Star Trek, to Memory Alpha. Where's the difference I am missing? What makes those sites appropriate and this one, not? I'd also appreciate if you'd avoid PA language like accusing others of spamming. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:20, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS - that potentially problematic links are included elsewhere does not justify including them here. Wikipedia is not intended to include all resources that may be considered by some to be "useful". Nikkimaria (talk) 23:08, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
User:Nikkimaria: Since you say that this falls under OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, I expect that now that I've notified you that such wikis are being linked to from articles such as Star Trek and Star Wars you'll go ahead and remove them, yes? Otherwise your argument would not be valid, as either the sites are similar and the rules apply to them too, or you are wrong and this is not a case of OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:09, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Since I cannot be responsible for all external links everywhere on Wikipedia, that I have not removed every potentially problematic link does not mean that all links are problem-free. Nikkimaria (talk) 22:10, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
I've got issues with some of the wording on the wikis, such as its preference to use non-Kodansha English spellings such as Jellal Fernandes, Meredy, and Tenrou Island, and without explaining up front the variants. Also, how to estimate the stability and the large number of editors. -AngusWOOF (talk) 21:24, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm not a fan of fan-based sources or ELs. I'm inclined to believe (without bothering to check) that some one thought it was a good idea to put the Wikis on the Star Trek/Wars pages simply because they figured it was a good idea, and it just stuck. That's just my theory. Even if that's the case. That doesn't mean it is a good idea. Those pages get the same level of treatment that Wikipedia gives to fansubbing groups for obvious reasons. Especially since it is a playground for fan theories. I mean look at this for example. Merely using that page to represent the fact that including such links poses the problem of making it seem that Wikipedia supports WP:OR. Thats just one of the problems with this. —KirtZMessage 01:07, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Lucy's age

The latest revision of the page claims Lucy is 16. I thought she was 17. Please keep this spoiler-free, though, I haven't watched the whole series yet. -Λίνουξ (talk) 17:25, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. I reverted it back to the original 17. Unfortunately, we don't remove spoilers as Wikipedia is not censored. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:26, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Of course, I know about the spoilers policy, I meant "keep the replies spoler-free". -Λίνουξ (talk) 07:01, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
I see. That edit to the age was done by an IP actually. Thanks. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 07:46, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Is Lucy's age an important plot point? If not, consider removing it as incidental trivia. —Farix (t | c) 23:59, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
They do list the ages of the characters in their character profiles for the chapter headings, but the specific number is not significant other than Wendy who becomes the youngest of the guild members. It could be replaced with "teenage". She is the youngest among Natsu, Grey, and Erza although not by much, just a year or two. Would have to see if the Kodansha back covers summarize her by age. -AngusWOOF (talk) 00:16, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
Character profiles often include trivia—such as blood type, astrological sign, likes/dislikes—that we don't include in articles unless they are significant to the plot or the had strong influences on the character's development. —Farix (t | c) 00:57, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Too detailed of plot section

I think the recent additions to the plot section have gone beyond what Wikipedia judges as a well written plot section.

″The objective of a summary is to condense a large amount of information into a short, accessible format. It is not to reproduce the experience of reading or watching the story, nor to cover every detail. For those who have not read or seen the story, it should serve as a general overview of the major points. For those who have, it should be detailed enough to refresh their memory — no more.'

As such I've added the plot cleanup template to the page. Thoughts?

Grayfm (talk) 05:23, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

You're talking about the last two paragraphs concerning END and Albareth Empire? The first paragraphs up to Eclipse are quite compact and concise. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 12:04, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
The Eclipse conflict doesn't really add up to anything big. I'm cutting that out and all the other secondary characters. User:Immblueversion (talk) 18:16, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
