Three different years listed for date the theater closed -- need correction[edit]

For the year that the theater closed, this article lists one year in the box at the right, and then lists two more different years in the History section of the article. The three different years mentioned are 1966, 1970, and 1973. It would be nice if some thorough research were done, and the one and only correct year be mentioned in the article.

I can speak to that, although only from personal knowledge, because I worked at this theater and the nearby Paramount when I was in high school, 1966-1970. It never really closed, although it was what you might call dormant. It showed "art" films such as "I Am Curious (Yellow)" which I was legally too young to see, but I saw anyway. It's funny. There were also other films. I think "Easy Rider" was one. Anyway, the theater was open periodically during that period. I was doorman and candy-counter relief, and I'm not going to tell about the things that went on there with my fellow employees. There were never many customers. There was a "dirty book store" next door. There were drunks wandering around. I had to take films from the Paramount (where they were delivered) about two blocks to the Fox Oakland, get into the building, use the elevator and bring the films to the projection booth. Film cans containing the reels, if you don't know, weigh about 30 lbs. so I had to carry 60 lbs. across downtown Oakland wearing an absurd red jacket and clip-on bow tie. So, it is all fun and fond memories, now that it's in the past. Wastrel Way (talk) Eric
