Additional affiliations

[edit]

Cohn is involved in other organizations. I believe this is wiki-worthy and part of what an encyclopedia should be included in the article. Please give guidance on the best way to include the information which can be sourced to the organizations themselves, and not necessarily in a third party source. I tried to add the following two bits of info: a)Mr. Cohn is a member of the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, (MAS). b)Mr. Cohn serves as a trustee and chair of the NYU Langone Musculoskeletal Advisory Board. the references are to: http://www.mas.gov.sg/about-mas/overview/advisory-committees/international-advisory-panel and http://nyulangone.org/press-releases/over-62-million-raised-nyu-langone-medical-centers-2014-violet-ball Factsonlyplease39 (talk) 06:43, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Factsonlyplease39, if he is involved in other organizations in a meaningful and important way, then secondary sources will have written it up, and those are the ones that should be cited. Without such sources it's just you (and him, probably) who thinks that those affiliations are important--so that's either OR or just resume writing. Secondary sources is the name of the game. Close connection

[edit]

User:Brianhe: You added a close connection tag in June 2015. It's now February 2016 and it's still there. I think we should try to be more constructive and find ways to remove it. What sounds particularly POV to you? Is it the "personality and work style" subsection?Zigzig20s (talk) 03:49, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Investment Banker

[edit]

Should title of page be changed? He's now more famous as Trump advisor than his former position. | MK17b | (talk) 22:34, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So what name would you propose? | MK17b | (talk) 21:48, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sry, I'm new to wikipedia and didn't really even notice your answer. (I'm now watching the page so should probably see changes when i'm logged in from now on.)
To your question: I really don't know. I thought his full name - Gary David Cohn/Gary D. Cohn - would be unique and clear, but that doesn't match with wiki-policies from what i can gather (much less recognizable and natural than investment banker). If he really becomes FED-chair that would probably work, but until then it be quite a while. "Trump-administration-official" would be an improvement imo and probably the best candidate, but not very concise, so don't know if that's ok. (Not aquainted with how strictly people cling to the guidelines usually during this whole "consensus"-thing) and otherwise i think "Trump-official" is probably to casual and few know what the NEC in a title "Gary Cohn (NEC-director) would mean. Possibly misleading wording

[edit]

In the introduction it says "Cohn is a registered Democrat, but has donated extensively to the Republican Party.[3]". This is completely true, but might be a bit misleading, especially with the "but" after the registered Democrat, so that one might find it implied, that, while he is a registered Democrat, his donation record would place him rather with the Republicans (than the democrats). This would not be true/complicated as Cohn has all in all contributed a bit more to Democrats, although his more recent donations go more to Republicans (1).

I would propose changing the wording a bit to one of the following (changes in bold):
- Cohn is a registered Democrat, but has donated extensively to Republicans and Democrats. (did donate to candidates, not just the party; see opensecrets-link)
- Cohn is a registered Democrat, but has donated extensively to both parties.
- Cohn is a registered Democrat, but has donated extensively to the Republican Party as well. (best in my opinion)

If nobody has any concerns/alternatives I will probably change the article in the next days (you can go ahead if you want)
+ Is he really still a registered Democrat?

(1) source: https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-11-29/goldman-s-cohn-to-meet-with-trump-amid-transition-consultations; starting third paragraph after Goldman Sachs as sub-headline. More recent most to Republicans strongly implied, but not definitely stated ("But he’s also donated more than $225,000 to Republicans, with most of the money coming in recent years."). If I understood opensecrets-search correctly, that is his donation record, if sb. wants to and go through it independetly (didn't do it myself exactly as of now; alternative to open-secrets e.g. http://www.campaignmoney.com/political/contributions/gary-cohn.asp?cycle=16).

New Section Needed for Trump admininstration

[edit]

Would someone please add.--Wikipietime (talk) 12:16, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

order of article (chronological)

[edit]

Aren’t biographies mainly written in chronological order? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biographies also says “In general, present a biography in chronological order, from birth to death, except where there is good reason to do otherwise. Within a single section, events should almost always be in chronological order.”
So probably the sections “National Economic Council director” and “Career” should be switched. (Don’t know exactly what good reason means, but in the Hitler or Obama biography they also seem to follow chronological order, while Hitler’s early artistic ambitions are probably overshadowed by later events.) If nobody says anything contrary and the order hasn’t been changed yet, I would probably change it in the next days.
Editingthings (talk) 18:40, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have now switched the sections. I have basically only cut, copied & pasted the sections, but as I did it in the visual-editor there are minor changes to the “code”.
Pls feel free to switch back, but leave some sort of reasoning as to why.I have also renamed the section “Career” to “Business Career” – analogous to the Donald Trump wiki-article - as it’s probably (?) unlikely that anyone would consider his govt-work not part of his professional career.
The section “Personality and work style” could also possibly be integrated into the “Business Career” or even the “Goldman Sachs”-subsection as it really only describes his behavior there if somebody wants to do it. I think the current way is slightly better (1), but don’t really care, just in case somebody wants to do it.
(1) work style could obviously still be the same and that might be of interest for those looking for info on the Trump-administration/Trump-administration-officials and don’t read the GS-part + one could see it as an important aspect of the person that shouldn’t be filed simply in the Career-section.
