Pierson's importance

[edit]

Gene seems to have operated under the mainstream radar for many years but had a great influence in the careers of many top acts . I wonder how many other manager, producers ewtc who operate in the background of the music industry are hardly mentioned when the people they help become stars?

Re-write

[edit]

I have undertaken a re-write of this article, it still needs a lot of work as currently doesn't meet WP:BLP and has only one source. I have:

  1. deleted all references that were simply links to other artists, not supporting claims made regarding the work of the subject.
  2. changed section headings to remove promotion/peacock words
  3. rearranged paragraphs under new section headings, these need copy-edit to ensure flow, tense and sequence is correct
  4. created a lead

Please assist by finding independent and reliable sources that support the claims made in the article and by not introducing further uncited information. Flat Out let's discuss it 02:44, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Giving AC/DC a leg up

[edit]

I note that Pierson's role in getting AC/DC has been re-written in the lead, and in the body of the article. I would like to raise a couple of concerns for feedback;

  • The section heading seems POV to me. Did he really "give the band a leg up" by booking them at Bondi surf club? Shouldn't any band bookings, where notable, be under one neutrally worded heading?
  • The referenced claim that he brokered a deal to get Bon Scott from Fraternity to AC/DC is not supported by the major biographies that credit Vince Lovegrove with getting Bon to AC/DC.

Bretonbanquet I don't know if you watch this article but I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Flat Out let's discuss it 02:11, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't have this article on watch, so I haven't seen it before. I do think some of the section headings aren't very NPOV, and not very encyclopedic. Specifically, "giving AC/DC a leg up" implies that Pierson was instrumental in their early success, and I just don't think that's true. He was certainly one of the guys who helped, but they got the Bondi gigs because they were a good, popular band, not because of who they knew. That could do with neutralising a bit.
I have never heard of any "deal" being "brokered" to allow Bon to join AC/DC. It's not like he had to leave another band to join – he'd left Fraternity in 1973 quite a while before his motorbike crash in May 1974. By October, Dave Evans had been fired from AC/DC, Scott was introduced and they rehearsed, and that was it. Malcolm made all the decisions and Dennis Laughlin would have been the guy who organised wages etc. Lovegrove definitely introduced Scott to the band when Scott was doing odd jobs at Lovegrove's office while recovering from the bike crash. That's sourced all over the place. Scott was initially the band's driver, and Bon has said that himself on film. Even if Pierson was involved at all in Scott's joining AC/DC, it's a massive stretch to say he brokered a deal. I think that needs to be taken out. I have been trying to re-write the article to make it more encyclopedic - paying particular attention to removing uncited statements. I agree that it still contains a number of comments which are not very NPOV and would appreciate any assistance. Dan arndt (talk) 05:13, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to help, I'm not working on anything else at the moment. I know a fair about AC/DC so that stuck out to me, but I will go through and improve where I can. Flat Out let's discuss it 06:03, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, the original editors seem to have based the article on personal discussions with Pierson, which whilst they might be factual have proven to be difficult to independently verify. Have spent on and off a few bit of time trying to track down and properly cite references without culling large swathes of the article. Dan arndt (talk) 08:11, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
