Constant edit reverts
[edit]I noticed this article has been receiving constant edit reverts from an IP editor who for some reason is insistent that the article has nothing to do with U.S despite the fact many sources state her father is American and she has Dual UK-US Citizenship. This needs to be dealt with. Mcs2050wiki (talk) 17:13, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
Looking at the IPs editing history, they seem to have a thing for reverting British-American articles to solely British. I may bring it up with the administrators. Mcs2050wiki (talk) 17:17, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
Repeat vandalism
[edit]Following this edit I checked the references: the article text is verified. This isn't an edit war: it's repeat vandalism and a WP:block seems justified. --Old Moonraker (talk) 13:11, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Duplicated references: this needs a fix at some stage, but meanwhile it may be useful to have the online version as well as the print, so readers can see for themselves that the citation is valid. --Old Moonraker (talk) 14:02, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Five reverts and the legal threats raised at WP:ANEW. --Old Moonraker (talk) 22:47, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- The IP editor given a month off in which to relax—now combining the duplicate references. --Old Moonraker (talk) 16:56, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Keeps coming back, albeit with no legal threats this time. This is strongly sourced, and not particularly controversial—there is certainly no reason to call it "antiAmerican" and "hate content". I can't identify any common factor to the edits, so is there perhaps some off-wiki campaign somewhere to get this removed?--Old Moonraker (talk) 09:17, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

SHES ENGLISH. OK.
[edit]WHY HAS HER CITIZENSHIP BEEN HIGHLIGHTED? SURELY IF SHE IS ENGLISH, BORN IN ENGLAND, TELLING US HER PARENTS ARE ENGLISH AND SHE IS A BRITISH CITIZEN IS VERY MUCH OVERKILL — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.82.151 (talk) 10:17, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Nationality Doesn't Read Correctly
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
You can't call her 'American-English' for two very good reasons, one is that an 'American-English' person is an American national descended from English stock [1] who wasn't born in the UK and Hayley was, and two, she was born in England which makes her nationality English with American dual citizenship. Twobells (talk) 21:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- First of all, the actress actually is an American national and descends from English, as everyone on Earth descends from their mothers. Second of all, if you follow existing nomenclature, it would rather be the 'English-American' person (commonly known as 'Anglo-American') that would be equivalent to Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Afro-Americans and so forth. Remember to keep your adjectivized nouns in front of your objects. ;) -- 92.230.223.242 (talk) 10:15, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

hayley atwell is Half American And Her Nationality Must Be Mentioned As American-english
Here Is Proof
Her father, also part of the self-help revolution of the Seventies, who left when Hayley was two after her parents divorced, is of part Native American descent. The half American, half British genes and an upbringing of complete openness (she describes her mother as her best friend) may also go some way to explaining why Hayley may succeed in her ambitious goal. ‘Americans have an amazing ability to look at someone else’s success and share in it, whereas the Brits tend to complain and bitch about it. They see someone else’s success as their own failure.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.163.238.52 (talk • contribs)
- I'm sorry - I just realised - you maybe didn't understand that the WP:CONSENSUS page people keep telling you about is a link. You can just click on the blue words to take you to a page that explains all about consensus - which is what you would need to get this changed. Your quotation is lovely, and speaks to her parentage - but the article already covers that, in the "Early Life" section - rather well and thoroughly, I think. Good luck. hayley's is half american as well and if her nationality is so controvertial then her being english must be removed also, or it should be written as american-english above links are verified about her half american nationality.
Until Proper Consenus About Her Nationality, Her Nationality Of English Must Be Removed Like That Of Peter O'Tool And State Her Just As An Actress.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.163.224.211 (talk • contribs)

Nationality
[edit]A short while ago, I made this edit, which was reverted minutes later. There are two (related) issues with this:
- The infobox describes Atwell as having "British-American" citizenship. However, "British-American" is not a citizenship; there is no country called "British-America". Atwell is a citizen of the UK and, separately, the US. So her citizenship is properly described as "British and American". ("American and British" would also be technically accurate.) This change should be non-controversial.
- The lead describes Atwell as "a British American actress". This is inaccurate per that link: a "British American" person is an American of British ancestry. Atwell is British born and raised, with annual visits during her youth to see her estranged, American father. This clearly doesn't fit the meaning of "British American" at all, as described on that page.
Finding the best terminology here is not so obvious. My edit changed both sections to "British and American" and in my opinion it's fairly straightforward to make a case for that: it makes sense for "British" to come first as that reflects her birthplace and upbringing; it makes sense for "American" to be present, too, as it reflects her half-American parentage; and it makes sense for "British" and "American" to stand separately as that reflects the fact that she is, separately, a British citizen and an American citizen.
There may well be a better way of handling this, so I invite comment on this issue. In the meantime, since "British-American" and "British American" are objectively not correct - whether from a citizenship or a cultural perspective (per British American) - I'm reverting back to "British and American" for now. Please do not simply revert back. Instead, join the discussion and let's try to reach WP:CONSENSUS on this. Thanks. -- Hux (talk) 03:48, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Citation for "Why am I so Photoshopped" story is incorrect
[edit]I haven't ever made any edits on Wikipedia before, so I didn't want to execute the change myself, but it looks to me like the citation for that section is wrong. The interview it links to doesn't even mention Photoshop at all. It appears the proper citation is this: https://www.standard.co.uk/showbiz/starinterviews/hayley-atwell-ive-always-felt-quite-genderless-which-is-odd-because-i-have-big-boobs-10358903.html

British-American
[edit]Is it possible to change to British-American from British and American given that she has dual citizenship? FireDragonValo (talk) 19:03, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- In this case, I think it would be okay because she has a British mother and an American father. I don't think it works if based solely on citizenship, eg if someone is British and then as with many actors subsequently obtains US citizenship by work/residence - such a person is is just British with an additional passport resulting from dual citizenship. Sbishop (talk) 07:26, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- See the above discussion about why British-American is incorrect. That would imply that she is an American of British decent (as in Italian-American or Mexican-American). British and American properly identifies her as a citizen of both countries. Rcarter555 (talk) 08:08, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Irish and Native American descent
[edit]I removed the references to her Irish and Native American descent here because MOS:ETHNICITY states that the degree to which one's ethnicity is in the article is based on whether it's relevant to their notability or "of defining importance."
She has dual-citizenship so English and American are left in.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:16, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
