[edit]

The article seems to doubt that people are actually behind horse ripping. Though it may be so that sometimes injuries caused by other horses or animals may be mistaken for horse ripping, it is definatly not so in all cases. Here in the Netherlands, a man was recently sentenced to life in prison after mutilating several horses, ponies and a few other animals (most of which did not survive their injuries) and killing one and injuring several other people. Most of the animals had been cut around the genitals. BabyNuke 13:46, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Source? I'm not sure anyone has ever been prosicuted in the uk.Geni 16:46, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's a few dozen articles on it, but those that I can find are all in Dutch, like this one [1]. He was nicknamed the "Beul van Twente" (which translates to something like "Reaper of Twente", Twente being a region in the Netherlands) and googling for it returns almost 800 hits. For what it's worth, it's a recurring phenomenon in Sweden, and has been for many years (possibly with an interruption, indicating than one or few individuals are responsible for most of them?) Sexually motivated, and AFAIK no convictions. JöG 23:10, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How can you know it is sexually motivated if there are no convictions? --Sasper (talk) 03:49, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

Oppose merge at least, not into the cattle article. If both were merged into a generic "animal mutilation" article, that would probably be less of a worry. But the individuals who mutilate horses appear to have different problems going on than some of the cattle stuff. And horses aren't cows. Just my two bits. I also Oppose merge. Horse-ripping is something quite specific I think, and while related, it's okay for it to have its own article. BabyNuke (talk) 18:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Media

[edit]

The Godfather (Part 1) famously showed a cut head of a horse... In the making/extras it was revealed that it was a real head of a horse... Should this be mentioned in the section "In media/film" on this article? 117.212.120.172 (talk) 23:15, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If there is substantial coverage of this in independent reliable sources that calls it "horse ripping", then yes. Otherwise, no. (Imagine, for instance, if every song, book, movie, video game, etc. that included God, the Pacific Ocean, spoons, shoes, etc. were listed in God, Pacific Ocean, spoon, shoes, etc. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:23, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
