Article[edit]

Why can we not first wait? I mean, less than 5 kb is not much, so the section was fine for what there was. I just mean we should wait for the information to outgrow its section then create an article. Dustin (talk) 20:22, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, and you're thinking the right way, but AFAIK it is being edited as we speak. Give it a few hours at least. We can write a 10-15kb article on these easily. Speculation[edit]

As of 6:30 pm EDT Thursday no warning has been given to Virginia, but if Arthur continues on present course it will be across Virginia by 2 pm Friday (although dissipated?). No warning to Virginia now means, on the eve of the 4th of July weekend, no effective warning to Virginia at all. This may have to appear in the Aftermath section when it is written. Assessment[edit]

Just so we can quickly resolve this issue, regarding the assessment, I set the importance to mid, Cloudchased changed it to low, then TropicalAnalystwx13 changed it back to mid. Missing before GA nomination[edit]

Not sure if anyone intends to GA nominate this anytime soon. It's in pretty good shape. The biggest things missing, however, are:

  • Bahamas and Florida impact
  • Damage total
  • Economic cost

Some of this won't be available for a few days, however.

Article location[edit]

Why is this at Hurricane Arthur and not Hurricane Arthur (2014)? There have been other storms named Arthur, and there is little chance the name will be retired given the damage reports. CrazyC83 (talk) 19:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it was the only Hurricane Arthur. It is more important how the categories are done, though, because if a more significant Hurricane Arthur than this one was to occur in the future, then it would be a hassle to redo the category names. Yeah, like commons:Category:Hurricane Arthur (2014). It should be located there anyway, IMO, because if there was another Hurricane Arthur, especially a more significant one, then the category would have to be moved from commons:Category:Hurricane Arthur to commons:Category:Hurricane Arthur (2014) to allow more continued disambiguation. (edit conflict) I don't know why they added the option to move categories when it won't even change the category links at pages in the category (it makes the feature next to useless), but that's too bad, I guess. Image[edit]

I don't think it is useful to have two landfall-based images in the article. I think an image of the actual post-tropical cyclone is far more useful than an image of half the Earth. Also, my image was actually relevant to the Canadian impacts section, and it is just a better image of Arthur IMO. Dustin (talk) 21:56, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the point in making such a big deal out of an image. Honestly, I don't prefer either--one (the extratropical image) is choppy while the other (the globe image) doesn't focus in on the storm. If we're going to debate about this, I'd suggest using this. I don't know what you mean by "the extratropical image is choppy". What, the line where part of this image is kind of split? I don't think it would be good for the post-tropical impacts to include your linked image, although I will say that it isn't too major of an issue so long as we make sure not to keep on changing back and forth without discussion. I would like to point out that the full-disk image does not show Arthur after landfall in North Carolina as has been stated, but rather shows the storm off the coast of Florida, near the Bahamas. I've marked it accordingly here. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:56, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Any reason you choose "became" and not "was" in the first sentence?
  • "The storm then trekked swiftly northward" - looks more northeast
  • Why no link to US$ in the lead?
  • Where did the initial low form from? A front? A trough? Check the TCR, it has more on origins.
  • How close did Arthur get to Florida?
  • "completed its conversion to an extratropical system at 12:00 UTC as it moved over the Bay of Fundy.[8] The NHC subsequently issued its final advisory on the storm and shifted warning responsibility to the Canadian Hurricane Centre,[27] which reported that Arthur came ashore at Meteghan at 10:30 UTC" - so did Arthur move ashore while tropical according to CHC? Or was it ET there too? Just trying to figure out timing.
  • Why no mention of the 1901 storm whose record Arthur broke? (earliest NC hurricane) (per TCR)
  • The rainfall map shows the heaviest rainfall occurring in South Carolina, but there is no mention of the state

Earliest known hurricane to make landfall in NC[edit]

Hello, I just noticed, that the first sentence of the entry conflicts with HURDAT, where Hurricane Two of 1908 is making landfall in North Carolina on May 29th. Perhaps HURDAT has been updated since release of Arthur's TCR. 85.23.85.46 (talk) 05:25, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
