Fan of Longoria and ping pong with Zidane?
[edit]On March 21, 2006 an anonymous read added the following sentence to the article, "He is a fan of Eva Longoria and appreciates playing ping-pong with Zinedine Zidane." I could not find a credible source to confirm either claim. I suspect it is a hoax and am deleting it. If anyone is aware of a credible source to back either statement, please replace with a citation. --Mikebrand 03:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Is he a Spurs player?
[edit]I see revert wars are centered around whether Mahinmi is a Spurs Player, a Spur or neither. He is an unsigned draftee for the Spurs. He has played with the Spurs in the summer league. He is a basketball player (as opposed to a stadium or owner or mascot). Should we continue reverting on this important topic? Or should it go to a vote?--Mikebrand 03:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I vote Spurs Player --Mikebrand 03:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- Agree—Spurs player. Unfortunately, some Down Under folk seems to think they know more about the Spurs. Clipper471 03:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
No
- Has Mahinmi ever played in a Spurs game, be it regular season, playoff, or finals? No.
- Is he on wikipedia's list of National Basketball Association players? No.
- Do we classify Len Bias as a Boston Celtics player because he was drafted by them? No.
- Do we classify Carl Lewis as a Chicago Bulls player because he was drafted by them? No.
- Is Master P categorised as a Toronto Raptors player or a Charlotte Hornets player because he played a few summer league games with both them? No.
Clipper471, having a jab there? Are you of the belief that you're more up on the subject because of your location? Surely not; you were insistent upon the fact that Erick Barkley and John Salmons played for the Spurs. They never did. So yesterday, why were you categorising them as such? Surely you should know better. Please enlighten me further on the advantages of being a U.S. resident.--Downwards 04:19, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm sure this issue has come up with other players. Does anyone happen to know the objective criteria used to determine whether a person is listed in a "player" category? --Mikebrand 04:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I envision the player categories as eventually becoming all-time rosters (like this) for their respective teams. Thus, I don't think Ian Mahinmi should be included until he has appeared in a regular season game. I'm not thrilled about putting him in Category:San Antonio Spurs either. Separate Article or Category?
[edit]In the case of Mahinmi, I can see the rationale for wanting a link to either the Spurs or Spurs Players categories. He is much more than someone who was signed and traded. Spurs staff is working with him on diet, strength and development. He has a high probability of playing for the Spurs in a few years. He is receiving local media attention: the Express News ran a feature article on him during the summer league.
Maybe the solution in situations like this should be a new category such as Spurs Unsigned Players or an article with a similar title, an explanation of what it means to be an unsigned player and a listing of players linked to articles. Or, since this issue surely applies to players with many teams, maybe the solution is a single article for all unsigned players in the NBA with a single explanation of what that means, then a listing by team of all unsigned players. --Mikebrand 18:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
