Merger proposal
[edit]It has been suggested Illegal immigration in Japan be merged into this article any opinions would be welcome. Dwanyewest (talk) 05:24, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Strong support - one article is a stub and the other fits in with this article. ミーラー強斗武 (talk) 21:58, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support - Both articles are short and should be consolidated. - Boneyard90 (talk) 22:21, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- I don't agree with merging the alien registration article here. You could be a foreigner in Japan temporarily without being an immigrant, and would still be required to register. Dekimasuよ! 04:14, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- I would also object to merging the alien registration article into this article. As Dekimasu points out, the issues don't completely overlap, and moreover, there is a long and contentious history surrounding the registration system that really doesn't fit here. Michitaro (talk) 00:11, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Strong support - The stub article about illegal immigration should be merged to this one. The previous two comments about alien registration seem to refer to a proposal that is no longer current. Josephus37 (talk) 14:09, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
Needs past information
[edit]This article is about immigration within the last 5 years. It needs to include immigration from the last thousand years (Koreans, Ryūkyūans, Portuguese, etc). ミーラー強斗武 (talk) 22:06, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Ethnicity is not nationality
[edit]Right now, it reads "although any casual inspection of the population reveals near ethnic homogeneity". This is simply false. No data about ethnicity is collected by the Japanese government. Instead, they collect data about nationality. It may be tempting to use the latter to represent the former, and many people do, but it is erroneous. --Douglaspperkins (talk) 14:32, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Without reference, I agree that the statement should be changed or removed, especially the part about "any casual inspection", as it puts the imperative to confirm on the reader, which is inappropriate for an encyclopedia or any academic-style writing. However, I would concur with the idea that many Japanese pride themselves on the perceived homogeneity of ethnic Yamato Japanese, often forgetting or ignoring that there Ainu to the north, Ryukyuans to the south, and Zainichi Koreans sprinkled throughout. - Boneyard90 (talk) 14:49, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- I support removing it, as this is false. ミーラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 14:54, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Something nasty in the punchbowl
[edit]"It’s interesting how every other ethnicity has an ethnostate except white." It is interesting how this...provocative little statement sneaked in and made itself at home in this article. 2601:602:9080:5BB0:B91A:8C5A:6F32:AE26 (talk) 23:33, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
