Cooking shows on tv

[edit]

The article claimed "In 1946 he appeared on the first cooking show ever televised, I Love to Eat on NBC.." but the book "Television broadcasting" by Lenox Lohr, New York: McGraw Hill(1940) says pp 78-79 "Television programs of cooking lessons have proved interesting, at least to housewives. One such program was built around the arrival of an unexpected guest, illustrating how a meal was prepared from what was on the pantry shelves." NBC tv in New York did extensive broadcasting 1939 through 1941, and remained on the air with minimal broadcasting through world war II. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Edison (talkcontribs) 20:54, 3 October, 2006 (UTC).

If that book clearly states this, then it can be used as a reference, and the line about Beard being on the first cooking show can be removed. Or perhaps it can be amended to say something like: "It is often thought that James Beard was the first person to appear on a cooking show, however this book says otherwise etc..." --Mattarata 02:20, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Top Chef contestants

[edit]

Virtually all contestants on Top Chef are James Beard award winner for something or other. Just how many awards are presented in his name? Since so many chefs have so many James Beard awards, it seems rather ordinary. --69.148.250.94 (talk) 04:57, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually most chefs don't have a James Beard Award. I would say less than 15 in the history of the show. Many are James Beard award nominees, but not winners. 96.238.151.194 (talk) 19:01, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
