Shame of Chuck Haytaian
[edit]When Florio did the responsible thing to balance the budget and pay for the schools as per the court order, Reps led by Chuck Haytaian didn't repeal the taxes in 1992 after the 1991 midterm elections. John wesley 15:06, 10 March 2006 (UTC) ~
- There was a partial rollback, including paring the sales tax from 7% back to 6%. Did that happen during Florio's tenure, or under Whitman, I forget. Dvd Avins 17:07, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- That could be the repeal of the tax on bathroom tissue (i.e. Charmin). I think Whitman was the 10% cut, i.e. if your state income tax was 4.0% the cut would be down to 3.6%.... Hardly anything at all. But 10% sounds big on TV and radio. Cynical John wesley 17:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Ports deal Dubai
[edit]More info on the Exon-Florio bill is needed here, given the current Dubai Ports issue. Thanks to Florio's bill, Congress has effectively abdicated all responsibility for oversight of foreign takeover of US interests vital to Homeland Security. This is relevant and should be expanded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.190.38 (talk) 23:59, 1 March 2006
- Nice try, but check the article. You've been smacked down again. Seriously, it's getting sad. Eleemosynary 12:18, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Quality Education Act
[edit]There doesn't seem to be any mention of this act on this page, or anywhere else in Wikipedia. It was an equal opportunity type act. Among other things, it attempted to limit the transfer of money from poorer to richer [not sic] school districts in New Jersey by making districts pay for their own schools after a certain point, which of course may have affected his reelection campaign. As I recall, a professor at Teachers College did a fair amount of research on this; it may have been Craig Richards (no, not the DJ!), maybe. In any case, (neutral) information about the Quality Education Act can be found at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum, just in case you're interested in the topic, or in adding info to this article.--gwc 01:41, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
