Edits on 13th April, 2014[edit]

The line 'Jorhat is the 2nd most devoloped city in terms of infrastructure in north east india after Guwahati. ' was removed as it was found to be an incorrect piece of information and not referenced with WP:RS either at the same time. If required, it will be adquately explained why this piece of information is incorrect. sunshine 02:39, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Bongaigaon[edit]

Mentioning 'Bongaigaon' as an important city in line with Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Tezpur etc. has no justification. Parameters such as educational facilities, infrastructure, population etc. seem to vindicate the same. Nborkakoty (talk) 14:06, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jorhat is the 2nd largest city in Assam[edit]

The reference cited in support of 'Jorhat is the second largest city in Assam', namely, [1].[2] are not reliable source as per wikipedia norms. Moreover, wikipedia is also not itself a reliable source. --Nborkakoty (talk) 13:41, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edits on 27th October, 2014[edit]

Many esteemed editors of wikipedia feel that 'Jorhat', probably their home town/district, is the 2nd major city in Assam. However, I would humbly like to request them to kindly go through the following facts -

1. Infrastructure -
a) There are cities in Assam, other than Guwahati, with airports operating far more number of flights than Jorht airport operates.
b) There are cities in Assam, other than Guwahati, which have far more number of trains originating from and terminating in than Jorhat Town/ Mariani railway stations have. Moreover, Mariani itself is a town having its own municipality/town committee and hence it doesn't come under Jorhat city in any way.
c) There are cities in Assam, other than Guwahati, which have qualitatively and quantitatively better healthcare facilities, more number of tourist hotels, multiplexes, malls (Vishal Mega Mart, Maxmart, Shohum etc. are not malls, only departmental stores) as compared to Jorhat.

2) Population and area -
a) Jorhat city population is 4th in Assam, according to the 2011 census[3].
b) Jorhat municipal area is 'extended to 9.20 sq. kilometre' according to the Jorhat Municipality website[4]. On the other hand there are cities in Assam, other than Guwahati, which have bigger municipal areas as compared to Jorhat.

There are some other facts as well. We do have respect for the historic and important city of Jorhat, which, over the years has grown into a major urban centre in Assam. But, to mention that Jorhat is the 2nd largest/major in Assam is factually incorrect. Thanks. Nborkakoty (talk) 13:01, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jorhat is the 2nd most important city in Assam[edit]

I simply donot understand why some people are so obssessed with this. Anyway let's discuss this with the following few points.

1) Dibrugarh Airport handles 3 daily flights to the national capital Delhi (one is a non-stop direct flight from Delhi) and two daily flights to Kolkata, whereas Jorhat airport simply doesn't have a single daily flight to either Delhi or Kolkata.

2) Both Dibrugarh Town (DBRT) and Dibrugarh (DBRG) railway stations handle trains such as the Rajdhani Express (a total of 20 Rajdnahi Express trains in one week between Dibrugarh and New Delhi), Kamrup Express, Brahmaputra Mail, Dibrugarh Chandigarh Express, Dibrugarh Amritsar Express, Dibrugarh Kolkata Superfast Express, Dibrugarh Kanyakumari Vivek Express to name a few. But Jorhat Town railway station is nowhere near such a connectivity.People talk about the Mariani station, but then Mariani is a different town having its own town committee. Moreover, Mariani too doesn't have any such train originating from and terminating in it.

3) Dibrugarh has the North East region's first medical college and the North East Region's only Regional Medical Research Centre. Patients from Jorhat and other districts in large numbers still flock the medical college and other private medical care facilities in Dibrugarh.

4) Dibrugarh has Upper Assam's only general university having departments such as Petroleum Technology, Biotechnology etc., which has colleges affiliated upto the Golaghat district. D U Institute of Science and Technology has also come up in the Dibrugarh University campus and Upper Assam's only Pharmacy institute is also located in Dibrugarh. Jorhat has the Upper Assam's only Agricultural university, the first Engineering College, the North East Institute of Science and Technology (formerly RRL) and the Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (former Science College) and Upper Assam's only planetarium.

5) Dibrugarh Doordarshan Kendra is the 2nd Doordarshan Kendra to telecast programmes in Assamese. Jorhat doesn't have a Doordarshan Kendra yet.

6) All India Radio's Dibrugarh centre broadcasts programmes in both AM and FM bands and is the oldest radio station in Upper Assam. Jorhat has only a FM radio station till date.

7) If other talks in this page are followed, then some more facts will also come to light.

8) The Directorate of Development of Small Tea Growers is functioning from Dibrugarh besides the Regional Office of the Tea Board of India. Jorhat has Toaklai Experimental Station and the Zonal office of the Tea Board of India.

9) In this way, not Jorhat but Dibrugarh is the 2nd most important city in Assam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Findings9 (talkcontribs) 16:46, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Knowing Wikipedia is necessary[edit]

Reference is hereby drawn to an edit summary posted from IP Address 101.62.60.144 which goes like, 'Stop messing with this JORHAT page you ******* *******. Come to see jorhat before you rank 4th in Assam. Just stay away from our jorhat page.'

Such esteemed editors may be well advised, FIRSTLY that one takes recourse to such highly abusive language when one doesn't have sufficient facts or even have no fact at all to drive his point home, SECONDLY to familiarise themselves with the WP:5P of wikipedia and THIRDLY to follow above talks on this page where many editors have already put down resonable and sufficient information to establish that mentioning 'Jorhat is the 2nd most important/largest city of Assam' is nothing but a hoax. Moreover, the fact that Jorhat is the 4th most populated city in Assam is supported by Census data of 2011 from a WP:RS source, that is, a government website [5]. Disruptive edits[edit]

I have tried to remove personal WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV of editors that they've included stating Jorhat as the second biggest city after Guwahati in Assam without convincing reliable WP:BESTSOURCES. There has been multiple attempts to promote misleading claims to misguide WP:USERs. Verifiability and Advert templates have been tagged to bring attention to the readers and editors that many parts of the article require refinements, as it contains statements which are either personal views and not substantiated with credible sources and good references or WP:SYNTHESIS. However, many editors are constantly making WP:DISRUPT edits with indiscriminate inclusions, such as modifying the municipal area of the place, area ranking without citing sources. Esteemed editors, if are from Jorhat or even otherwise, should listen and learn that such persistent WP:DIS edits, and violation of WP:ASSERT are not seen as constructive edits.

Particularly, I would like to draw attention to the IP 42.110.147.255 and the user Hardeep111 who appear to be the same person, and has been persistently disrupting the content and removing and disregarding notices without any regard to the core content policies of NPOV, WP:V and WP:NOR. This can be viewed as an act of WP:VD and would encourage that Users should familiarise with Wikipedia as rightly pointed out by Findings9.

Thanks.

Semi-protected edit request on 20 September 2018[edit]

I request the below changes to be shown under "culture" which would highlight this historical monument of Jorhat. Sukapha Samannay Kshetra in a memorial built in the memory of Sukapha, the first Ahom king of Assam. The Sukapha Samannay Kshetra is situated near Mohbandha near Jorhat and Dergaon. Sukapha was the founder of the Ahom kingdom which continued to exist for nearly six hundred years.A Thai prince, Sukapha came to the region crossing the Patkai range. He is the main person who initiated the unification of the tribal and the non-tribal people of the region. The Sukaphas Samannay Kshetra was built as an attempt to highlight and preserve the remarkable leadership of Sukapha. Sunnygarg12354 (talk) 16:47, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir, Jorhat is the second largest city in terms of area and in terms of population Jorhat is 4th largest city of Assam state, India. Some mischievous people have edited the Wikipedia page of Jorhat and mentioned Jorhat as the 5th city of Assam which is totally false. It’s wrong information. Dear Sir, I’m sending you the Indian government pdf file where it’s clearly mentioned that Jorhat is the 2nd largest city of Assam. Please read page 18 of the attached file of government of India report regarding Jorhat. http://niti.gov.in/writereaddata/files/Assam-reports.pdf

Please help us. I am sending you the accurate link which was send by Department of Agriculture Government of Assam Dispur, Guwahati Hardeep24816 (talk) 18:14, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hardeep24816, please tell me the page where the information is on. h 05:23, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. We generally want to see a reliable census agency instead of a passing mention in a government report, which doesn't mention the specific figure for population or area at all. Per the 2011 census, Jorhat is 5th in population. We'll update it after the 2021 census.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 07:30, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jorhat[edit]

A user keeps on reverting to the same edit, which serves no purpose expect it being irrelevant (WP:RELEVANCE), where the page talks about the history of Jorhat the user keeps on inserting some text about the Burmese inavsions having no relation or connection at all. When coming to debate, this user simply nips it off by giving some personal remarks (WP:NOPA) or at most giving a summary having no conclusion.
