Place of birth

[edit]

Different sources say Oldfield was born in Shrewsbury, Condover [1] and Ryton, Shropshire. For the last, if Great Ryton alias Ryton is meant, then these places are in a cluster.

There is clear support for that in a 1943 obituary of Oldfield's sister Mary Ellen. "Her father, with whom she lived and who was blind, played the organ at Condover, a neighbouring village, for 40 years." [2] Charles Matthews (talk) 03:55, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Further data point from the Rev. William John Oldfield, Josiah's brother: address of his father David is given as Little Moor House, Ryton, Dorrington which would be Dorrington, Shropshire in the same cluster. [3] Charles Matthews (talk) 09:56, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Josiah Oldfield was born in Condover (this is cited on page 1 of Josiah Oldfield's only published biography Josiah Oldfield: Eminent Fruitarian written by Rosemary Dellar. I am lucky to have the book. I will be expanding the article next year. Thanks for your work on the article. Psychologist Guy (talk) 19:43, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
