Merge
[edit]I think that the contents of Kaczynski and Kaczyński should be merged to a single disambiguation page, and one should redirect to the other. The pages are (so far) rather short, and it is just an inconvenience to have two separate disambiguation pages.
(One could argue that the title of the page should be "Kaczyński", as this is the more proper and original version, or that it should be "Kaczynski", as this is the way most English speakers will recognize and type the name). --Austrian 21:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I merged them at Kaczynski, following my argument above. --Austrian 20:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Kaczka
[edit]Is it true that "the surname Kaczyński is derived from the (Polish) word kaczka"? The Polish page does not mention it. For all I know, the name may be derived from pl:Kaczyniec or pl:Kaczynek, two Polish villages. --Austrian 22:15, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I removed this claim. A reference to ducks would be more appropriate at Lech Kaczynski or Jaroslaw Kaczynski, since they are in caricatures sometimes portrayed as ducks. --Austrian 20:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Obviously, the villages are named after ducks as well, it would be pretty unthinkable for it to be otherwise. --KiloByte 07:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Kaczynski → Kaczyński – Native spelling of the surname. This is how it is done in Wikipedia now, Lembit Staan (talk) 16:53, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

- Support. This is sensible. The majority of usages on this pages are written like this anyhow. Nohomersryan (talk) 07:30, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support per In ictu oculi, blindlynx and Nohomersryan. A common Polish surname which is written with a diacritic. Analogous to German surnames, such as Schröder or Günther, French surnames such as Lefèvre or André, Spanish surnames such as Fernández or Díaz, etc. All of those as well as many other surnames with accents and diacritics are used by residents of the English-speaking world without accents and diacritics, but main title headers of Wikipedia articles describing those surnames render them in their original forms. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 06:11, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

- Strong oppose per Google NGRAMS comparison. Although use of the diacritic is rising in English -language publications, as of 2019 it is still only half of the non-diacritic version. There is no evidence for WP:COMMONNAME. (t · c) buidhe 05:52, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
