Inclusion of Adolf Hitler
[edit]I recently removed Adolf Hitler from this list, as he is not notable for being a painter. However, that was reverted, and so I am opening a discussion here about whether his inclusion is warranted. BilledMammal (talk) 03:58, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- I mean there is literally an article about Paintings by Adolf Hitler and his paintings regularly sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Whether the art community considers him noteworthy or not doesn't really have any bearing on the fact that he is objectively one of the most well-known and successful (as measured by market value of his art) Austrian painters in history. 2A02:8108:13C0:150:4842:3DEC:A1EF:94E3 (talk) 19:08, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- His artworks may sell for large amounts of money, but because he was a notable dictator, rather than a notable painter - I don't see that as evidence that his inclusion here is warranted. BilledMammal (talk) 22:34, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- This article is not called "List of notable painters from Austria", it is called "List of painters from Austria". Hitler was a painter and he was from Austria, hence he should be included in this list. 81.132.73.10 (talk) 22:37, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
- That it is not called "List of notable painters..." I think is an argument against including him. He is notable, but because it was nowhere near a prominent aspect of his life, I don't think most would call him "a painter". signed, Willondon (talk) 17:44, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- WP:NPOV requires things mentioned in an article to have some degree of relevance and notability (that's why the Flat Earth conspiracy theory isn't included in the Wikipedia article about Earth). Therefore, simply being a painter from Austria isn't noteworthy enough to be on the list, per se. CerealContainer (talk) 01:37, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- He is notable though. Notable is Notable, no matter how you slice it.
- However, Notable isn't No table...
- Sorry. IdaeChop (talk) 16:13, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

- I think if you ask someone to name an Austrian painter 99% of the time they’d say Hitler. There’s a whole meme of calling him “Austrian painter” I💖平沢唯 (talk) 10:30, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Adolf Hitler was a painter, born in Austria. A dedicated one, at that. This fact is well documented. It is unreasonable to say that his later endeavors in life preclude him from being a “painter from Austria”. There is nothing to debate here. 2600:1700:FD0:E200:7129:8503:351E:99 (talk) 20:24, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
Keep him
[edit]Many artist weren't notable during their lifetime, but they became famous after their dead. Hitler kinda fits in this category Yippt (talk) 21:31, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
keep him in

Redirect hatnote
[edit]I was going to add a {{redirect}}
hatnote to the page for the term "Austrian painter" but reverted it upon seeing similar edits being reverted, mainly for the reason "Hitler is already on the list." I personally think that it should be kept as "Austrian painter" may not exclusively refer to Hitler, but is often used as a euphemism for him (enough to warrant a hatnote I'd argue) and so should be present even if he is further down the list.
