Untitled[edit]

This album is not a grunge album. If the guys from Iron Maiden and Judas Priest made an album that sounded just like Public Enemy or N.W.A. you wouldn't say it was a heavy metal album, you would say it was a rap album. I think it should say "rock band".

Maybe this is just my personal bias taking over (well, it is, in fact) but I believe it should mention his death being 8 years after Kurt Cobain's death or apparent suicide or alleged suicide instead of the definitive "suicide," since it is still widely disputed. I, for one, think he was murdered but there's a good way to introduce a little more NPOV to this article. I'll leave this up, and if nobody has any real objections after a week or so, I'm gonna change it to one of the aforementioned terms. --MUSpud2 22:22, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i feel that if mention of cobain's suicide is made, then it should be stated as 'suicide', and not 'alleged suicide' or similar, since the officially-recorded cause of death is in fact suicide. maybe mention that the cause of death is still widely disputed by fans, and link to the kurt cobain article.
furthermore, staley's exact date of death could not be determined, and was only estimated to have been approximately 2 weeks prior to the discovery of his (decomposed) body on april 19th 2002.--Kingreka 21:07, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

this album is not really a grunge album im not sure what it is but i think it should delve into its diversity a little bit so people dont get disapointed when they find out its not all grunge tunes.Curefreak

Requested move[edit]

"I'll spare you the long story, but the album should be mad season, and the band should be Mad Season. Because of the capitalization differences (and a note atop each of the pages), parenthenses are totally unneeded. Comments[edit]

Unless a good reason is provided otherwise, I oppose this. The capitalization of a single letter is not sufficient to distinguish between these two in the title. In searches and in links, having a distinct title is necessary. —Centrxtalk • 03:05, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1994 - 199(5)9[edit]

After reading this article it looks pretty clear this band only lasted one year. Only in 1998 did recording resume with both a new name and a new line-up. The name "Disinformation" would apply to a new band by typical standards of the musical-chair groups of today. Also, according to the article's references the band toured in 94-95 (only 8 gigs). So then, shouldn't the years active be '1994 - 1995'? - Steve3849 talk 10:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

Decision:  GA on hold

Checklist[edit]

  • Well written very well written.  Pass
  • Accuracy several claims fail verification, see comments.  Fail
  • Thorough yes  Pass
  • Neutral yes  Pass
  • Stable the article has seen a fair amount of vandalism in the last few months, but the content of the article has been largely stable.  Pass
  • Images infobox, and also an audio file of their biggest hit.  Pass

Comments[edit]

The article is well-written overall, but I ran into issues verifying several of the claims in the article. Individually, most of these claims are minutiae, and I don't think that any single one is a deal breaker, but together they add up. If most of these issues are be fixed, then I'll be happy to close the review as a pass.

The issues are:

  • Failed to verify claim that "Artificial Red" came together at the show, seems like synth based on a setlist that doesn't say anything about the extent to which Artifical Red existed before the concert.\
I found something on this, but it appears the origin of this information has unfortunately been erased. It was allegedly available at http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/MadSeason/ , but it has no archives and all that's left of it are forums that quote it. dannymusiceditor oops 16:54, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Failed to track down source #9, even with library card access to Rock’s Back Pages, which supposedly archives The Rocket.
That source to me is now #11, but anyway, I have found not only a text transcription of the article, but this seemingly reliable book uses the article in question as a reference. dannymusiceditor oops 16:54, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The backup sources are good enough for me (I suspect that the problem lies with Rock's Back Pages), but that source still doesn't say anything about live versions of River of Deceit. signed, Rosguill talk 22:03, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Source 10 does not actually support the claim in paragraph 2 of Dormancy, Disinformation, and dissolution (1996-1999) that Staley declined to work with the band in 1997 due to worsening addiction or poor health. It does support the other claims made in that paragraph.
  • Source 11 is a link to a youtube video that has been pulled for copyright and is not viewable in the archive either.
Huh, that worked a month or two ago...replaced nevertheless with new URL. dannymusiceditor oops 16:57, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Source 18 does not support the claims in the first paragraph of Partial reunion. N.b. that the claims are about a 2012 concert, whereas Source 18 was published in 2010.
  • No sources backing up claim at the end of partial reunion about an album charting.
  • The Allmusic quote attributed to source 27 failed verification
Here's where we got confused: that quote has sat there for a long time, and it used to say that [1]. But it appears it's been edited to its current form. I'll make the archived version appear. dannymusiceditor oops 14:38, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Incorrect sources for American charts in the singles table, although these are easily verifiable with links at River of Deceit
  • Link 41 is broken, unable to verify claims. Similarly, I was unable to verify the existence of a 1995 music video.
In regard to the music video, [2] dannymusiceditor oops 15:46, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, some edit suggestions for style, which are not holding up the GA but are places where it could be improved:

  • The chronology of the first paragraph of the Post-breakup section is a bit jarring––putting Staley before Martin might make it flow better.
  • Yes Mad Season only had one real album, but it’s confusing to open the Musical style section with “McCready described the songs on the album as…” when the last section just spent multiple paragraphs talking about the band member’s later projects, including several albums.

August 25[edit]

So, more than a week has gone by, but there's only two (connected) significant issues left: source 21 (used at the beginning of the Partial reunion section) says that the reunion was a concert for Haiti, not Mike's annual benefit concert for Crohn's disease as claimed in the article, and the lack of a source at the end of that section to back up claims of an album charting. I'm tempted to just edit the first claim and remove the second claim myself and then confer GA status, as these are rather minor issues. However, I do want to leave open the chance for a source to be provided for the album charting claim, or for another source backing up the claim that it was a Crohn's disease benefit concert, so I'll leave this open for another week before closing it out. signed, Rosguill talk 22:51, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops. Yeah, I'll finish this. dannymusiceditor oops 17:06, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
