Basically an advert

[edit]

This article is very much a PR experiment for mark peter . I wouldn't be surprised if it was written by the man himself. I pray to the god of wikipedia that someone with some sense removes all the big headed bullshit and makes this what its supposed to be i.e. an article in an encyclopedia. Whoever wrote this disgrace should be ashamed of themselves (yes I'm talking to you MPW or minion). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Greensalad82 (talkcontribs) 01:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article is written exactly as an advertisement. It needs a complete rewrite. Lines about how a person cooked chips for another, but then charging 25 pounds "for the honor of it" have no place in Wikipedia. Therfore, I have added the advertisement and rewrite tags to the article. Tc.bongers (talk) 21:59, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's *had* a rewrite, I spent some time on it at the weekend. The line about chips is *perfectly* relevant, it's an example of the mans personality. I'd be interested in some better examples, or, alternatively, rewrite the article yourself. 06:44, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The story about cutting open the young chef's clothes with a knife is sufficient to show his personality. I have removed the story about the chips. Also the article that is the citation says nothing about the 25 pounds being for the "honor" of eating them; it just says that it was for the time he spent preparing them. Tc.bongers (talk) 14:54, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the quote is incorrect chage it. Don't delete valid, referenced material. Thedarxide (talk) 15:44, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mario Batali

[edit]

Mario Batali was also employed by Marco albeit harsh and short lived, why no reference? Source would be from Mario himself.Source 66.227.160.18 (talk) 05:22, 30 May 2010 (UTC)JF[reply]

[sic]

[edit]

Minor point. The quote under Hell's Kitchen reads, "I might be the hardest person they'll have ever met but I've got a heart just as big. It's about picking people up off the floor and inspiring them to want to carry on 'til the end." As a source is being quoted, perhaps it was right to use the contraction, but "till" is not a contraction word, it is a word in its own right and actually precedes "until". Quote should be "carry on till the end" or "carry on 'til [sic] the end." Guv2006 (talk) 15:16, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Early life

[edit]

So his mother married in 58, then had sons in 55 and 57? Dates don't seem to add up. 86.174.44.201 (talk) 23:33, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion

[edit]

There is no mention of Criterion restaurant. Below is a cut & paste from somewhere else, but can someone write something authoritative about it.

Iconic London restaurant the Criterion has been taken over by Vasily Sopromadze, a Georgian entrepreneur, as the first of a number of planned investments in the capital.

The Marco Pierre White-branded restaurant at Piccadilly Circus, which was run by White’s business partner Jimmy Lahoud, has been taken over by Sopromadze’s company Vox Restaurant.

Marco Pierre White acquired the restaurant from Forte in 2001, when it was managed by My Kinda Town, and the sale follows that of White’s London restaurants the Mirabelle, Drones and Quo Vadis to Conduit Street Restaurants at the end of 2007.

Vox Restaurant plans to carry out a “gentle and sympathetic” restoration of the the Criterion including the refurbishment of the premises and upgrading of the kitchens and equipment. The group will relaunch the restaurant in May and plans to acquire other restaurant opportunities in central London.

Originally opened in 1874 as the Long Bar or Marble Hall, the Criterion is a Grade II-listed building that forms part of the 120,000 sq ft Criterion Theatre block which is owned by the Crown Estate. Interiors include a golden mosaic ceiling, set with semi-precious stones, and marbled floors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.242.187.129 (talk) 01:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The AA Gill/ Joan Collins ejection story is incorrect, it was actually Gordon Ramsey who ejected them form his hospital road restaurant. See profile on AA Gill for more information.

Please remove the following sentence/mention under Personal Life - 'On 7 June 2016, White's son, Marco Jr, became a contestant on the seventeenth series of the Channel 5 reality television series Big Brother. In his pre-entrance videotape, Marco Jr. stated that he would not be cooking for his housemates, despite the profession of his high-profile father.' As this is damaging and ruining Marco Pierre Whites image amongst his fans. 31.54.254.190 (talk) 09:18, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comment A fact and so perfectly fair. But some of his other embarrassing BB antics might be more worthy of mention. 20.133.0.13 (talk) 09:26, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Ishii

[edit]

is a central figure in Marco's TV shows articles and life. He is not irrelevant.

White does not drive but has a devoted Japanese chauffeur and assistant named Takanori Ishii.[1][2]

Being a deer stalker is more irrelevant.

You fail to explain why in this case the driver/personal assistant is notable. There are so many celebrities who employ drivers/personal assistants and none of them is deemed notable or even relevant enough to be mentioned in an article. The Banner talk 08:12, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding notable chefs

[edit]

There is a person who keeps being added to the list of notables. This person is James Stocks. Is there any consensus for his inclusion? He doesn't have a wiki page. My thoughts are that is the likes of Phil Howard and Stephen Terry aren't on the list, including James Stocks is ridiculous.NEDOCHAN (talk) 08:25, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Something needs to be done about the Heston Blumenthal reference. There's no mention of White on Heston's page.FangoFuficius (talk) 17:33, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Say what?

[edit]

In the Hell's Kitchen section: "At one point during the series, controversy ensued when White said, "I don't think it was a pikey's picnic tonight."" I'm scratching my head as to what, exactly, was controversial about that statement? Even after following the link, I'm still not quite clear about it. How about a bit of explanation for us dumb Yanks, eh? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.176.249 (talk) 01:06, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

White's statement was considered controversial because the English word "pikey" is an insulting name for Gypsies, Travellers. The implication is that the Travellers are brawlers who fight with pikes. Younggoldchip (talk) 20:45, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, see Pikey. Nothing to do with pike or pikelets. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:24, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

White Heat

[edit]

There is currently no mention here of Mr. White's seminal chef memoir/cookbook, White Heat, though there is a Wikipedia entry for the book itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Heat_(book). Given the frequent reference to this work in interviews with other chefs and food personalities, this seems a glaring omission. Eikosan (talk) 02:01, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Move to London

[edit]

The Times report here says this: "It reminds him of when he first moved from Leeds to London, to work at Le Gavroche. "All I had was £7.36, a box of books and a bag of clothes," he says. "I was a second-class citizen. I love the immigrant mentality.""

Why is "with £7.36, a box of books, and a bag of clothes" deemed to be obviously promotional nonsense? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:55, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Csw99, as you removed it, perhaps you could explain? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:50, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you serious? You don't see the obvious self-service in that claim, which cannot be verified by any independent source? csw99 13:14, 6 April 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csw99 (talkcontribs) [reply]
What if that statement were true? You discount that as a possibility out of hand? And where would one look to get it "verified by any independent source"? If it's clearly presented as a direct quote from White himself, I think we ought to allow the reader to make a judgement. If that judgement is "obvious self-service", then so be it. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:24, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps we can ask User:NEDOCHAN for his view? Or indeed any other editor who contributes here. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:09, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First off Martinevans, I'm delighted to see you back. Back to the topic, there is no good reason for not including the information, which is sourced and given in quotes. It'd only be an issue as to whether it's true of it were given as a statement of fact. As it's given as a quote and sourced to RS, it's fair to say he said it, and he'd know better than us if it's true. Saying it's 'obviously promotional nonsense' seems to me to be WP:OR. NEDOCHAN (talk) 19:18, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the confirmation. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:58, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Csw99 please could you stop deleting the sourced info while ignoring this discussion? It seems there is consensus to keep the info, and you are deleting anyway based on your own analysis.NEDOCHAN (talk) 11:43, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Csw99, your edit summary "removed unreliably sourced promotional crap" looks like a personal opinion. You are editing against consensus here. Martinevans123 (talk) 07:08, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who is the source of the claim? Who is the subject of the article? Are the two independent of each other? csw99 07:09, 16 September 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csw99 (talkcontribs) [reply]
You are now suggesting that we are sockpuppets or we are secretly colluding in some way? Very many articles contain information supplied by the subject. Martinevans123 (talk) 07:17, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, you've completely misunderstood what I said. So I'll tell you. The source of the claim is Marco Pierre White. The subject of the article is Marco Pierre White. The two are not independent of each other. Marco Pierre White's claims about himself are not verifiable. csw99 08:14, 16 September 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csw99 (talkcontribs) [reply]
I added the words "he claimed", so the attribution is 100% clear. Please stop edit warring while this discussion continues. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you want to include an unverifiable claim, exactly? csw99 06:40, 18 September 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csw99 (talkcontribs) [reply]
Csw99 - for all the reasons above. It's a quote, and it's fair to say he said it, as the quote is taken from RS. You have arrived at your own conclusion as to whether or not the quote is true, but you don't know that, and neither do we. Your opinion is that it's 'obvious promotional nonsense, but that is original research. It's a quote, he said it, and it's sourced. I think it's probably true, you think it's not, and that's fine. If we could find no source to verify that he said it, that'd be different. It's not presented as a statement of fact, it's presented as something he said. I think you haven't quite grasped the principle of that, and I might politely suggest you take a steer from Martinevans, who's one of the most experienced Wikipedia editors in the world. NEDOCHAN (talk) 08:12, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
