Other promo singles[edit]

Could somebody help add information of other promo singles. They used to be on the main discography things like "O Holy Night" and "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" but all of it was removed. There was atleast 15. Jayy008 (talk) 17:59, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Sources[edit]

hey, just something i've noticed. most of your chart position references just go to the home pages, not to mariah carey discography pages. so they are not actually verifying anything. Mister sparky (talk) 18:40, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Left a message on your talk page. Jayy008 (talk) 02:55, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

The Christmas single "All I Want for Christmas Is You (SuperFestive!)" is from Justin Bieber's Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe. NOT Mariah Carey's Christmas album, Merry Christmas II You. Please fix this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.253.72 (talk) 21:15, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Featured singles[edit]

Does anybody know if Mariah Carey was features on any other songs? I will do some research as well Jayy008 (talk) 02:55, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I own single Babyface feat. Mariah Carey - Everytime I Close My Eyes from his album The Day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Every_Time_I_Close_My_Eyes but on Mariah's discography its missing... Yenik — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.113.79.6 (talk) 17:17, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Semi-Protection[edit]

Why isn't this page semi-protected. When this was part of the one page Mariah Carey discography it was semi, because of the constant vandalism and numerical sales inflations. I believe that both the single and album discography should be semi-protected, to be safe from future sales and certification deflation & inflations.--Petergriffin9901 (talk) 01:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Interwiki[edit]

I think that all interwiki links (except hr) should be removed from this article and added to Mariah Carey discography, because on every other wikipedia both singles and albums are in one article.--SveroH (talk) 21:33, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

What does Madonna or Whitney have to do with this article?[edit]

What do Madonna and Whitney Houston have to do with the introduction stating " Mariah Carey has sold 17,172,000 physical singles and 11,120,000 digital tracks in the United States according to Nielson SoundScan leading the tally against Madonna and Whitney Houston..." If this is the case, then we should add "She is behind Madonna (37), The Beatles (34), Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder (28) for having the most Top 10 singles in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart." This sounds fair, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.134.155.55 (talk) 16:30, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

If you believe so, go to Madonna's article and write she holds the tally for most top 10 hits, ahead of Mariah Carey, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder.--PeterGriffinTalk 10:32, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, Petergriffin, I am not a Madonna fan. I only want to see things treated FAIR here. It's not like this is looking like we're trying to show that she is ahead of Whitney or Madonna or Celine. If it's mentioned that she is in 5th place among artists with most Top 10 singles, then I believe it's noteworthy to say who are (Madonna, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Steview Wonder) ahead of her, just as it's put that The Beatles are ahead of her in terms of number 1 singles in the Hot 100. We don't wanna sound like it's all FANCRUFT, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.134.155.55 (talk) 03:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Peter, you are being so illogical. Can you explain why it is necessary to compare her chart record with those of Whitne Houston or Madonna in the lead? Does her chart record not enough to speak for itself? Do you need to mention other female artists' names just to prove Mariah is an accomplished artist? Diphosphate8 (talk) 03:09, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I have removed any mention of other artist? in the lead...lead should only contain info mentioned in article they are not. Now that i look closer it needs to be rewritten as there is mention of 10 different artist in this lead. I will ask i friend that does FA list to help us here. Dont worry Peter your not alone here!!! LOL Moxy (talk) 03:13, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Let me explain once more. Now first, let any idea of favoring Mariah or Celine free from your minds, as I enjoy all talented female vocalists. Next, I understand if its Madonnas paghe and someone writes "Madonna is behind Mariah or Celine" as it is her page, so why mention it. But in her own page, you can mention artists shes ahead of. For example, if you want it makes sense to me to write in Madonnas article that she has more tope 10s than any other female, topping Mariah and janet, or something of teh sort.--PeterGriffinTalk 05:48, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
O well no edit war for me..i had fixed it up but he reverted it ..o well when he as more experience he will understand there no need to mention them at all. i will however not let this happen on main article as its FA level. Moxy (talk) 05:50, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Again, Peter, you are being illogical. Browse up and read everything what is said. What is the reason why you need to mention Whitney Houston or Madonna in Mariah's Nielsen Soundscan sales (that only started tracking sales in 1991) when YOU know the fact that Whitney and Madonna started their career 7 years before Nielsen Soundscan was even established. Whitney released 3 huge albums before while Madonna released 5 of her biggest selling albums before 1991. Are you even aware of this? Yet you don't wanna put this line "Mariah is the 5th among artists with most Top 10 singles (behind Madonna, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder). Are you insecure of Madonna or Whitney's success? Ikabod08 (talk) 22:56, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm really not going to have a whole discussion/edit war over names, remove the names or keep them I don't care. Whats important to me are her sales/certifications, not the mention of Madonna.--PeterGriffinTalk 00:03, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Break - comments from independent editor

Ok the introduction here is littered with random trivial facts from billboard. Which is fine but some of them need to be pruned out. The article should mention that Carey is one of the best selling females. Comparing to Whitney Houston and Madonna is correct because effectively they are her competition and rivals. However it should not be given an overemphasis. The introduction should be re-written to reflectg recording career over time. Currently (especially at the end) it seems to be a list of achievements. Regards, Lil-unique1 (talk) 00:08, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Also the first sentance is not really appropriately written. It should use carey's full name, Mariah Carey.

Exactly, all her Billboard achievements have been littered here in the lead which need to be FIXED at once. If you're a Mariah fan, you may like to read it but for a regular Wikipedia reader, this is becoming so tiring as all you here is Billboard, Billboard and Billboard as if Mariah is known only for her accomplishment in the US charts, yet with so little mention of the worldwide success of her singles. Ikabod08 (talk) 20:09, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

So MANY artists mentioned in the lead![edit]

How come this has not been fixed yet? I still see names that are not even related to Mariah's accomplishments, such as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Whitney Houston, The Black Eyed Peas, Janet Jackson). Can't her achievements stand alone that we need to emphasis other recording artists? Mariah is successful in her own right. We do not need to mention others here. Wikipedia is not a chart race and it is supposed to be NEUTRAL. Diphosphate8 (talk) 23:39, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

And may I add that since you like putting ALL Mariah's achievements in Billboard, it is better to put In her 20 years in the music business, Mariah is ranked #6 over-all on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists",making her the 2nd most successful female artist in the history of the chart. This is to show the neutrality of this article, since you mentioned she leads the tally in the Nielsen Soundscan era ahead of Whitney and Madonna. Diphosphate8 (talk) 23:46, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Top-selling female artist of all time?[edit]

Even this singles discography of Mariah Carey is starting to look like a FANCRUFT. This has been discussed yet in her main page regarding the claim of "best selling female artist of all-time" sourced from fan websites, without a reliable source to back it up. The lead is again full of Billboard craps without even mention of Mariah being ranked #6 among Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, which is of course noteworthy to mention, even beating out some senior acts (e.g., Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston) though there's no need to mention their names as this article is about Mariah. Ikabod08 (talk) 20:04, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Merged cells — merged songs??[edit]

I've just made some changes that I thought would improve the tables. One of these edits was to separate cells that had been merged. "Without You" and "Never Forget You" had been merged in both US columns, "Breakdown" and "My All" had been merged in the US R&B column, "Crybaby" and "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)" shared a cell in the Hot 100, and "Shake It Off" and "Get Your Number" had been merged in the UK column. I split them all to improve readability.

Then, while checking the Swiss peaks against the reference, I noticed two things:

  1. I hadn't actually split all the merged cells the way I thought I had; I actually missed several of them; and
  2. One of the pairs I missed was "Never Too Far" and "Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)", which are paired not only in the Swiss column, but on four other charts. The Swiss ref shows this as "Never Too Far / Don't Stop" at 65, so I realize I may have messed things up with my clever splitting.

Are these A-side/B-side pairs? Or what's going on here? If they're rated together on one chart, shouldn't they be combined on all the charts? And if so, they should be one line in our tables. I'm sorry I don't know about this, and sorry if I've mucked things up by trying to make things clearer. Please let me know what to do about these pairs (or undo my changes yourself). Sorry for the muddle. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 13:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Hey John. SO I don't actually fully understand what you did (though in norm, it looks basically the same). I am not sure if they were A or B sides, what I can tell you is I believe its simply coincidental that they reached a few of the same positions throughout the world.--PeterGriffinTalk 15:07, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh Santa single[edit]

Can someone add it please? Its been confirmed and everything, plus the album has been put on the discography page.calvin999 (talk) 12:39, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

No it will not be added yet. We have no confirmation of its release date, length or anything except its name, so no, not yet.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 18:17, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
You don't need to know length or release to have it under Angels Cry. Just the namecalvin999 (talk) 18:12, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
We don't have anything on the single, so no it cannot be included yet. We don't have a length, cover art, worldwide release date etc.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 23:36, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't add it, simply because, with Mariah there's always the chance of cancellation. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 23:48, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Well she won't cancel a project like this, but she could change the single or anything in the family.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 23:56, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
You'd never know... she cancelled "Angels Cry" in the UK. But peter's right... its best to wait until the song is actually released. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 00:05, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Angels Cry was cancelled in the UK? I thought it just stalled at #81. But then again Jamie did tell me that it was picking up in Airplay and started doing well but then got taken down :(.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 00:18, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Oh Santa is to be included in the singles discography now. I mean c'mon, it's been left quite late. people can buy it in 6 day.calvin999 (talk) 14:34, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

New Zealand chart info[edit]

The table correctly shows that Mariah has had seven number ones in New Zealand, but the article says that 'Heartbreaker' became her sixth number one in New Zealand. It was indeed her seventh, so can this please be amended. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.152.88.45 (talk) 16:30, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Promo singles section[edit]

...is a mess.

  • Most of the songs listed there weren't released as promo singles, but were album cuts that charted due to airplay.
  • Some promo singles are completely missing from the page (ie. Lead The Way, Do You Know Where You're Going To)
  • Some promo singles (for some reason) are listed in the main singles section (ie. Underneath The Stars, U Like This)
  • "So Lonely" was released credited to "Twista featuring Mariah Carey", not "Mariah Carey featuring Twista" so it belongs in the "other appearances" section
  • "Right To Dream" WAS released commercially, so it belongs in the main singles section, not the promo section.

Also, "I Know What You Want" should be listed in the "other appearances" section, since it was released as "Busta Rhymes featuring Mariah Carey" and not "Mariah Carey featuring Busta Rhymes". AND Charmbracelet should NOT be listed as the album IKWYW is taken from, since it's not on the standard release. Same for "Never Too Far/Hero Medley" and Greatest Hits. Nathan86 (talk) 05:51, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Against All Odds[edit]

Against All Odds reached #1 in the UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.99.108.56 (talk) 00:51, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

"Against All Odds" is listed as #1 in the UK but only under "Other Appearances" when she released the single with Westlife. I thought the song was a duet and if it is how come it isn't on the main singles table? - Jcl32791 (talk) 13:33, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

More charts?[edit]

What about adding more charts to the whole discography to give the article a wider outlook of Mariah's chart performance? Most superstarts pages have it and I feel Mariah's could be greatly expanded. I was thinking about something like this.

<Removed copy paste of the whole page in the talk page> Please take these changes to your sandbox. —IB [ Poke ] 18:44, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

UK Certs[edit]

"Endless Love" is also certified Silver in the UK. It's under "LUTHER VANDROSS & MARIAH CAREY - ENDLESS LOVE". Thanks.--108.64.1.166 (talk) 10:16, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

uk chart[edit]
