[edit]"The concept of marianismo gives rise to the virgin/whore concept in Latin culture" - What? 81.178.93.75 23:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- Whatever it is, I deleted it, because it is not explained. `'mikka 03:00, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
This isn't spanish culture, maybe this term is used in Latin Ameriacan, but in Spain never. --85.57.13.238 (talk) 01:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC) In Spain Marianismo is only related to religion. Many catholic private schools in Spain are Marianistas. --85.57.13.238 (talk) 01:50, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
it isn't the "inverse" of machismo, it is one half of the virgin/whore dichotomy in machismo. --dab (𒁳) 11:26, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I deleted "supposedly" from the following sentence in the lead section as article later states this, with source. "This term supposedly derives from Catholic belief in the Virgin Mary as both a virgin and a mother." Benutzer41 (talk) 20:20, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Relinked broken link
[edit]The link for http://research.umbc.edu/~korenman/wmst/marianismo.html leads to an error page now so I changed the reference to a working Web Archive version - is this the correct procedure? O0factuallycorrect0o (talk) 11:19, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Editing and Expanding
[edit]Hello! My name is Mackenzie - I'm a current Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities student at Rice University considering expanding upon this article and editing it for a class project. I hope to add to the material already presented, re-organize, incorporate recent statistics and crises data, and add graphics! I would love any suggestions on how to begin proceeding with this edit, or comments on what you would like to see changed! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mlk10 (talk • contribs) 14:14, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
New Edits
[edit]Good day, everyone. My name is Jennifer and I'm a senior from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi. I've taken on to editing this page for one of my courses this semester. After overviewing this page, I wish to add more information on the issues and criticisms surrounding the term "Marianismo" and how it projects more individuals who are immersed in this area of social norms with intrapersonal violence and gender disparities due to the acceptance of "Marianismo", similarly to "Machismo". I hope my addition will help the page, not hinder it in any way. If there's any issues with the post or the topic of insertion towards "Marianismo", please notify me. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you. Jennyc2015 (talk) 16:00, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Update anyone?
[edit]The term was coined by Stevens in 1973. By 1986 it was giving way in rural Andalusia as couples began to commute to good paying jobs outside their villages. In 1997 Gil & Vazquez were already referring to "Nuevo Marianismo"; and González-López says the concept is "now discredited". Would anyone with more interest than I care to review if things have changed at all over the course of the last forty-six years? If so, this article could probably stand to be reworked a good deal. Expanding On Marianismo's Effect On Latine Culture
[edit]Hello! I am a student at Rice University really interested in the topic of marianismo. While the article addresses certain effects of marianismo in Latine culture, it doesn't consider it's complicated relationship to machismo. Rather than marianismo being the opposite of machismo, I think it's important to acknowledge it's connection to reinforcing gender roles in Latine culture. They are intertwined in nature. Any thoughts on how to best address this issue? I'm considering adding a more in-depth analysis to the section titled "criticisms". Jme312 (talk) 02:26, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
Added paragraph on criticism
[edit]I added a paragraph about how marianismo can contribute to gender roles, and create conditions that made gender-based violence more frequent. I also added links to: Femicide in Latin America which is an article I am editing, and also Gender role. Stud3nt1947 (talk) 05:24, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Request for feedback on related article
[edit]I am a student currently editing the article Femicide in Latin America and am open to feedback on the related section of Gender roles, or feedback on the overall article. Stud3nt1947 (talk) 03:05, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
