Paula R. Feldman (two refs in article) attributes a play which appeared anonymously in 1789 to Mary Julia Young: The family party; a comic piece, in two acts, as acted at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. However, all other refs. I have found to the play attribute it to George Colman the Younger. The play does share a title with a novel published anonymously in 1791 traditionally attributed to Young, but piggy-backing on existing works was standard procedure in the 18thc so the shared title does not necessarily mean the two works were by the same author. Also, Nicola Lloyd, who seems to be the preeminent Young expert as of this writing, argues that Young probably didn't even write that novel. Given all that, mentioning the play seems, to me, beyond the scope of this article unless it becomes a lot more in depth, which seems unlikely given how little is known about Young. But I did want to note it here for anyone who is looking into Young and her work. — scribbling woman 13:22, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
