Nationality in lead intro

[edit]

From the article Massoud was born in Egypt but grew up in Canada. He likely has Egyptian citizenship by birth and Canadian by naturalization. However all his notable activities were in Canada as a Canadian resident and none in Egypt. Per WP:BLPLEAD Context section we don't list previous nationalities if not part of reason notable. His connection to Egypt is well-covered in the rest of the article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 19:23, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not even sure he has Egyptian nationality. Does Egypt remove citizenship when another nationality is claimed? Does Egypt force citizenship on people who may have a right to it but haven't claimed it? Egyptian nationality law § Loss of citizenship would make a claim of Egyptian nationality based on birth unclear. Geraldo Perez (talk) 20:00, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could we say Egyptian-born? Kay girl 97 (talk) 04:27, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Section "Early life and education" already states "born in Cairo, Egypt". WP:BLPLEAD says not in lead as that is not a reason he is notable and he had no notable activities in Egypt. Geraldo Perez (talk) 04:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Egypt doesn't allow dual citizenship, I believe. There would also have to be a source for his citizenship for it to be in the lead and add more to his biography to show a deeper connection to the country. oncamera 08:16, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This includes a statement from Massoud that he is Egyptian. Geraldo Perez (talk) 05:10, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geraldo Perez, is there text per WP:BLPLEAD that restricts the use of nationality in the overview and categories section according to where they had most of their notable work? Bechtoll (talk) 00:51, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Per MOS:ETHNICITY "Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability." All his notable activities as an actor were in Canada as a Canadian. He grew up there. It looks like he is proud of being Egyptian too but he has done nothing notable in Egypt. If he were a notable actor in Egypt first, then moved to Canada and continues acting, it would be appropriate to mention both in the intro sentence. Per WP:CATVER all categories must be supported by article content so what is in the category list needs to match what is in the article itself. his career

[edit]

The article quotes him as saying he hasn't had a single audition since Aladdin came out, and then it says "Massoud struggled in his early career in Toronto before his role in Aladdin" implying that since then he is not struggling. Is he not struggling in his career if he has not had a single audition?--2607:FEA8:D5DF:F3D9:64E0:9B1D:21A5:689F (talk) 11:28, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
