Requested move 27 January 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved as requested. I note the objection to using birth year, but there is a consensus for the proposed change, and the guidelines do suggest this, plus there is plenty of precedent. Note: I have also moved Michael Ryan (hurling manager) → Michael Ryan (hurler, born 1955), as both Michael Ryans have been managers. (non-admin closure) — Amakuru (talk) 12:25, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Michael Ryan (hurler) → Michael Ryan (hurler, born 1970) – to avoid confusion with Michael Ryan (hurling manager) Joeykai (talk) 04:07, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Support per nom -- 70.51.200.135 (talk) 06:46, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose using birth year. Per WP:NCPDAB "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it) although this may be necessary when there are multiple people with the same name and tag".
In this case we do have an alternative qualifier. This man's inter-county career was wholly with Tipperary GAA, and his local club Upperchurch-Drombane GAA is in County Tipperary. So Rename to Michael Ryan (Tipperary hurler). --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:12, 6 February 2016 (UTC) - Support, this is the recommended disambiguation per WP:NCSP.--Cúchullain t/c 16:16, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
