The name and title

[edit]

Which spelling is correct in Turkish - Midhat or Mithat or both? Ahmet or Ahmed?

Pasha is not a proper name, but a rank. Shouldn't it be lowercased? --Cameltrader 22:42, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Spelling

[edit]

Correct spelling is Mithat and Ahmet in Turkish

Pasha was an offical rank so it is commonly uppercased. (Like Lord XYZ) --Onursengul 14:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

I'm afraid there is a pro-Ottoman bias in the article. Midhat Pasha was an eminent administrator but he also was a tyrant who crushed several rebellions of the oppressed Christian minorities in the Balkans. --Vladko 06:57, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, brother. Is there some command center that sends out people whenever anything non-negative is said anywhere about anything Ottoman or Turkish? Midhat was loved by the Bulgarians for his reforms, and Midhat criticized for creating conditions that advantaged Christians over Muslims. Christians in the Balkans were no more oppressed than anyone else. He put down brigandage, if you would like to classify highway robbers as heroic revolutionaries. This is a man who fought with his entire being to ensure that Christians were represented in the Ottoman parliament. Jpiccone (talk) 06:42, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death?

[edit]

In the beginning of the entry the year of death is listed at 1883, but the end of the entry lists 1884. Which is it? Britannica lists 1883.Enslin (talk) 19:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
