Title

[edit]

I believe that the title should be moved to "Palais du Peuple" in accordance with Wikipedia:Article titles#Foreign names and Anglicization. It's a proper noun and seems a clear case of "too few reliable English-language sources to constitute an established usage". It seems a similar case to Bundestag or Palais des Papes.—Brigade Piron (talk) 14:11, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have no major issue with that, and it does exist as a redirect. (Bundestag is the normal English name, with 14 megahits at google. I wouldn't know what to call the building in English.) I do think ease of pronunciation makes sense for non-Francophone users of English Wikipedia. I settled on People's Palace because it was the term I was coming up with most in the references. I'd prefer we get some consensus by contributors to the article before moving it from the current People's Palace. μηδείς (talk) 19:31, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

People's Palace (Kinshasa)Palais du Peuple (Kinshasa) – Per above discussion. In accordance with Wikipedia:Article titles#Foreign names and anglicization, I think it's fair to say there are not enough English sources to establish "People's Palace" as a common name - "Palace of the People" could equally be said to be a better translation. In the circumstances, I think a move to the French title is reasonable. See [1] for sources which include it. —Brigade Piron (talk) 09:40, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - a Google books search returns 293 results for "People's Palace" (Kinshasa), 46 for "Palace of the People" (Kinshasa) BUT 8.450 for the "Palais du Peuple" (Kinshasa). Granted it's unscientific, but it does illustrate the point that the French term has a much wider currency than either of the English terms. It also brings it into line with the Guinean Palais du Peuple and the Congolese Palais de la Nation (Kinshasa)Brigade Piron (talk) 09:40, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait Like I said, I'd like more comment. Going by Google Books, of the top 10 hits, only 3 are written in English, and many of the hits seem of no real relevance to the topic. I am not too concerned with the title, since as I have said we already have redirects. But I don't think it's fair to non-francophone readers to have to stumble over a word they won't know how to pronounce in the text of the article. μηδείς (talk) 17:41, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
