Availability by Region needs updating

[edit]

The "Availability by Region" in the summary-box needs updating: it currently lists only the United States, Japan and India as being where the device is sold.

Yet according to Google's official page (https://support.google.com/store/answer/2462844) they list: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States. 90.210.15.232 (talk) 15:39, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

The previous, good, photographic image on this page has been replaced with a drawing (both shown below):

I reverted this, but the drawing has been returned with an edit summary of "See Talk:Comparison of Google Pixel smartphones#Change of device images, this is consistent with other Pixel articles".

I'm not clear how a discussion elsewhere is binding on this article, but in any case the image is poor. It might be good for a side-by-side comparison with other phones in the series, but on its own, it's trite, and needs to be replaced by the former image (or at least another photograph, of comparable worth). How is the photograph substantially better? The only difference, really, is what's on the screen, which isn't the focus of this article. This article is about a piece of hardware; the software has its own article (Android 12, in this case). I will also point to the precedent on other smartphone articles, e.g. iPhone 12, Samsung Galaxy S20, Pixel 4, etc. Clearly, schematic diagrams are preferred over actual photographs. But the content on the screen is not "really" the only difference. Far from it. The drawing represents the front-facing camera and the body of the phone as featureless, uniform and two-dimensional black shapes, with no depth. The photograph, on the other hand, shows the front-facing camera has having several concentric components behind glass, and the body as being three-dimensional, and not black (best seen on the top left corner). I note that the article says "The device is available in Chalk, Charcoal, and Sage"; black is not mentioned. A bevel is visible between the glass and the case. Those differences are why the photograph is substantially better. The repetition of this error on other articles means they, too, should be fixed; it does not justify perpetuating it on this article.
