Is it satire?
[edit]It must be satire. 2601:153:680:1F40:347E:ED41:3D07:4231 (talk) 11:54, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- I have to think so as well giving her recent writings on Olympic breakdancing, but I don't think we yet have a RS to support the claim. Jjazz76 (talk) 04:31, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
Add OLY post-nominals
[edit]As an Olympian, she is now Rachael Gunn, OLY 142.170.50.48 (talk) 13:43, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- The OLY post-nominals require an opt in, so that would need to be sourced in some way. Jjazz76 (talk) 16:22, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- not for other cases: Simone Biles 5.90.112.93 (talk) 14:17, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Re Barker College
[edit]I have just removed mention of the school, added by Research17. See here and navigate to and download 2005 issue. No mention of Gunn on p. 24, and doing a search of the document doesn't find anything either. Please supply another source if true. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:27, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, my mistake. Have reverted. Had somehow pulled up the wrong issue. Will try to add a link to the citation anyway. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:40, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- (The month was wrong in the citation - now fixed.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:51, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for tidying up my citation and correcting the month. Your version does look more professional. Cheers, Research17 (talk) 04:19, 14 August 2024 (UTC).
- No worries - thanks for finding that bit of info! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Coverage
[edit]I know this article subject is a bit controversial at the moment. Are stories like this worth including? https://7news.com.au/sport/olympics/australian-viral-breakdancer-raygun-cruelly-mocked-on-jimmy-fallons-the-tonight-show-c-15686430 https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/current-affairs/jimmy-fallon-playfully-mocks-viral-australian-breaking-sensation-raygun/news-story/050e3ecc8183fc61250d9da9bf56a9a7 LibStar (talk) 01:37, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Good question. I'd lean towards waiting a little, just to get some more perspective.Research17 (talk) 04:23, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- BSame. In fact I'm beginning to wonder if some of the detail re the controversy belongs in the article dedicated to controversies anyway. It's getting a bit out of proportion for a BLP. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Research17 and LibStar - I have just posted a query on the Wikiproject Biography page about what to do about the large amount of media coverage generated by the controversy. It seems to be already getting a bit out of hand for a BLP article, but let's see if there's some already existing guidance we can follow (and/or opinions from other editors well-versed in bio articles). Sentence needs rewriting for clarity, grammar and syntax
[edit]Under the heading "Dance career: 2024 Olympics", the final sentence reads "On the other hand, more than 15,000 Australians have signed a petition demanding her for apology from the controversial breakdancer" (emphasis added).
This is both grammatically and syntactically incorrect, and poorly-written. Can someone make sense of it and rewrite it? Thanks. Bricology (talk) 07:13, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the alert. I have removed the sentence as it did not have a reliable source anyway (Daily Mail is deprecated). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:10, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink if what the daily mail has reported is factual then this claim is worth including I think. initial phrasing is poor ("on the other hand" implies argument) however the figure, if accurate, helps depict the level and kind of backlash which is relevant to the page imo
- if a better source can be found then I'd advocate bringing it back Meikkon (talk) 21:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- It has since been covered, and the petition has been removed. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:03, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
NPOV?
[edit]Rovingrobert sorry to undo, but see my edit summary.
Please write your reasons here, stating what you think needs changing, if you want to start a NPOV discussion and add a template. (Bug in the editing program here has just wiped out my intro paragraph, but this is the main point.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:17, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Main interests
[edit]Is this section really relevant and if so do we have any proof its all correct? Sushidude21! (talk) 00:12, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Which section? There isn't one called "Main interests". Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:06, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Its in the bio
- Main interests
- Sushidude21! (talk) 01:19, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Those are her academic / research interests. Standard in the infobox for an academic. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:28, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink is this standard? I thought the addition of interests would usually be reserved for more influential academics. the most citations any of her papers have (from the ones linked) is 5 and these are generally quite low impact journals Meikkon (talk) 21:35, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't add the infobox, but the guidance is in Template:Infobox academic. Her notability without the breakdancing would possibly be low (I don't know without looking into it further), but the fact is that she has an article, so I can't really see a good reason for excluding information about her. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:11, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink thanks for the link. not to be a stickler but I would say ethnography and praxis are more her methods than her interests so I'll remove those and keep the rest Meikkon (talk) 04:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- No worries. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:46, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

- Also, the "proof" is in the citations provided in the body of the article. We don't put citations in the infobox. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:36, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

ladbible reference
[edit]just added some details about manipulating the selection process and an apology, taken from this source https://www.ladbible.com/news/sport/raygun-breakdancing-petition-olympics-australia-change-org-396226-20240815
this is just a note for me to add it later when I'm at my laptop. or someone else can do it if they want. I'm off to the pub in a bit so probably won't do it til tomorrow now Meikkon (talk) 14:22, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Bias
[edit]I've noticed that the article primarily focuses on the alleged online bullying aspects, but there seems to be a significant oversight regarding criticism of her performance. This omission could potentially lead to a biased portrayal on this bio page. Lichadehehehe (talk) 07:04, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- I dunno. There seem to be a lot of words already expended on the "controversy" and one could go on forever. Remember this is an encylopaedia. There may be a case for trimming further after the immediate hoo-ha has subsided. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:25, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
"She began breakdancing in the early 2010s, when she was in her mid-twenties."

World number 1 - WDSF rankings
[edit]Surely it’s worth adding that she’s just been ranked world number one by the World Dance Sport Federation (the official body for break rankings)? We would do that for any other sports person. 37.63.21.40 (talk) 09:19, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- That's in the article, see Rachael Gunn#Dance career. WWGB (talk) 09:54, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Surely that should be in the intro like it is for other competitors who have reached number one 185.189.199.11 (talk) 08:25, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Please add OLY behind her name, this is a question of accuracy and respect. 5.90.112.93 (talk) 14:13, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Charliehdb (talk) 15:45, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
