Split[edit]

You should split this article. Randy is way more important than Sharon in the series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.5.197.211 (talk) 06:02, 2006 October 9 (UTC)

Hmm. It fits well eough with the whole South Park theme. Though her celulitis is showing and his belly is not... Anyhow separately they are not ellaborated enough to create articles that would not be stubs unless you write the same thing(s) twice. 86.104.204.67 15:44, 20 November 2006 (UTC) Rotten[reply]

Like I said before: Try looking at Randy Marsh's[1] article in South Park Wiki. Even when the speculation and original research is removed, Randy still has enough information to get a private article. And until more information on Sharon is given, do you not suppose she could have merely a section in the list of South Park families? (That's what happened to the student characters and Richard and Mrs. Tweek when their articles were merged!) Wilhelmina Will 00:15, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Head pic[edit]

Would it be possible to get a head pic of them thats less...kinky? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.12.116.14 (talk) 17:17, 2006 October 18 (UTC)

Infobox[edit]

The infobox has an obvious typo: "appearance" is misspelled. Can someone fix the spelling? 147.70.242.40 23:51, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly "appearance" is the correct spelling, and secondly that is built into the Wikipedia software. 194.247.234.39 10:17, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It may be spelled correctly, but there's nothing built into the software about it. See Template:South Park character. Playstationman 15:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Image needed[edit]

I removed the old one of just Randy, seeing as it wasn't very suitable for the article. I'm sure there's good Randy/Sharon picture somewhere out there.--Swellman 02:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

May I suggest you have a look at Sharon's article and Randy's article in South Park Wiki. I think both images are rather good (especially considering I'm the one who picked out Randy's image). Just a thought. Wilhelmina Will 03:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prominence list[edit]

It's kinda long. How about we change it to "Episodes where Sharon is prominent"? After all, Randy is pretty much considered a "main character" now (like Mr. Garrison or how Chef was). --Jopasopa (talk) 20:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Randy marshes' job[edit]

In "two days before the day after tomorrow" he is referred to as "Dr. Marsh". Would it be correct to put in the article that he is a doctor in his field? I always thought that it would be appropriate, but that episode confirmed it (I mean he is after all a scientist, if a very bad one.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.76.60.163 (talk) 02:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Randy's Changing Appearance[edit]

Somebody should put somewhere in the article that Randy looked different in earlier episodes of South Park, with a smaller head and less thick hair. It should say when his appearance changed and, if known, why. 75.82.195.12 (talk) 06:15, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shelley's age[edit]

Wasn't she 12 when the show started? If Stan was 8 and now 10, doesn't that make her 13 to 14? --69.124.164.51 (talk) 23:26, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll change it to 13...and see what happens. Mrmoustache14 (talk) 01:22, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

Do we really need to have these two clumped into one article? Randy is by far more known and seen more often than Sharon in the latter half of the shows lifespan. I believe that a spit for this article is necessary. I also would say the same for Gearld and Shelia. The Optimistic One (talk) 20:57, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

is it normal for an article that has a split proposal and isn't accepted/denied after 3-4 years? CR-1-AB (talk) 02:00, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split (November 2019)[edit]

I already did the work on this but it was reverted by SNUGGUMS. A joint article doesn't reflect the characters' roles in the latest seasons on the show. Randy has been described as the new main character, while Sharon is a background character whose importance doesn't warrant their own article. Randy should be spun off into its own article. --Shivertimbers433 (talk) 03:26, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is it not feasible to simply add more on Randy and perhaps updated details on Sharon? Also, stronger sourcing would be preferable for a main character claim. While I do know he's gotten more focus in the most recent seasons, that doesn't by itself necessarily mean he warrants an individual article as you seem to think. As far as I know, WP:GNG is the guideline to use for character pages, and it would help to use sources that specifically focus on one character if opting for a solo page. Being a main/background character is irrelevant. Maybe I'm missing something and should've done more searching into Sharon earlier, but part of me senses that (at least in the beginning) she and Randy were often discussed jointly when he didn't have his own plotlines. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 13:20, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Randy Marsh has been used a lot more often in the last couple of seasons. I believe a split is necessary as I've stated above. Him being a main character is a certainty. The current seasons opening sequence even credits him as 'starring'. The Optimistic One (talk) 23:09, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Randy Marsh is pretty much deserving of his own article. As a breakout character in South Park, he won't disappear from the spotlight anytime soon. Matt and Trey have basically identified with Randy in later years according to interviews. ULTRA-DARKNESS:) 2 CHAT 20:19, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Clarify - @Shivertimbers433: If a separate Randy Marsh (South Park) article is split out of this one, what would be left? Sharon Marsh (South Park) presently redirects to a different article, which has summaries of the entire Marsh family. Would it be better to migrate the content about Sharon, Shelley, Jimbo into List of South Park families#The Marshes, and rename what is left of this article? (I am not generally a South Park follower, but was reviewing some of the split proposals) --Scott Davis Talk 01:06, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Rename to Randy Marsh and include a small section about Sharon - she isn't sufficiently notable for an article here. schetm (talk) 04:54, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Randy is much more notable than in the past, as he became more used in the show and more sources were made for him. Kori (@) 22:08, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Shivertimbers433: Its been proposed for nearly a year now and theres a consensus to split the page. Do you know anyone who can perform the obligation? The Optimistic One (talk) 21:44, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We're at three-plus years now. I WP:BOLDLY made the move but was reverted by Lithopsian on the basis that there is no discussion to do so. Lithopsian, hopefully you can see that there is a consensus to perform the split. QuestFour (talk) 19:31, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't move the page. You cut the contents from one article and pasted them under a different name. Don't do that. It loses attribution and history, makes it look like you suddenly wrote an article from scratch yourself, and generally leaves behind an awful mess. I pointed you to the way to do it properly, you'd do well to go there and at the very least read the instructions. Lithopsian (talk) 19:59, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I altered the article enough for it not to be a "cut and paste" situation. WP:MOVE does not state or imply that a moved article has to be entirely re-written; anything remaining that is seen as messy can be dealt with in according to WP:MOVE#POST, and not be a full-on hindrance to perform the move. QuestFour (talk) 00:13, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sophistry. A split is taking some (generally less than half) of one article and creating a new article (or overwriting a redirect) while leaving behind a good chunk of the original article. Taking 90% of the same words from one article and pasting them (unattributed, effectively claiming they are your words!) into another while leaving behind only a redirect (or even two redirects) is not a split. Just do it properly and you'll be where you want to be. Lithopsian (talk) 15:52, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There, requested move created. Now you can voice your approval, or not, and when the move is agreed in a few days time, it will be done for you. Lithopsian (talk) 15:59, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Attributing the original article in an edit summary and placing a copied tag in talk, which I admittedly forgot, would've also been fine per WP:CWW. QuestFour (talk) 16:25, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The split[edit]

Can someone please split Randy into his own page? As stated above by several other people, he has become a more major character compared to Sharon who is more minor. RedStarG46 (talk) 21:23, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming of page[edit]

I feel that, rather than being split, this page should be renamed to "Randy Marsh (South Park)", as Sharon definitely does not deserve her own page and the content on her could be moved to List of South Park families. BossBabyIsAMasterpiece (talk) 20:09, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Randy and Sharon MarshRandy Marsh (South Park) – A split has been discussed (see several sections on this page, including a still open split proposal) and apparently the consensus was to remove Sharon Marsh content to create a redirect (see Sharon Marsh) to a list of characters, and rename the remaining content in this article to Randy Marsh (South Park), with suitable edits. However, an editor keeps cutting and pasting the content, so here is a proper move request. I don't anticipate major objections, but just to be safe I haven't raised it as a technical request. Lithopsian (talk) 15:57, 24 March 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 10:24, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quite possibly, but best under a separate request. Lithopsian (talk) 14:42, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move as proposed. BD2412 T 19:43, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move: Randy is more deserving of a page than his wife as he is more prominent and is talked about more often. Sharon should redirect to the list of characters page. SimonLagann (talk) 23:44, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move: hes the main character of the series the last few years and also the info on sharon on here is minimal in the first place.Muur (talk) 03:34, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
