I can't see how this person merits a "High" in Ethiopian studies; despite having read several general surveys, this is the first I've heard of him. so I'm reducing this person to "Mid". -- llywrch (talk) 20:04, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Failed verification

[edit]

The article currently reads "In January 2008, Hadane verified that there were engagements between the Ethiopian community in Israel and the African community of America." It cites this Jerusalem Post article as a reference. However, the JP article mentions "Rabbi Joseph Hadana, the chief rabbi of the Ethiopian community" but makes no mention of "Raphael Hadane." If both of these names refer to the same person, then we need a reliable source to indicate this. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:55, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Subject of article

[edit]

It is still confusing (to me) whether the subject of this article is the Chief Ethiopian Rabbi or not. I found another news story who identifies the Chief Rabbi as "Yosef Hadane" (compare with "Joseph Hadana" mentioned earlier on this discussion page). No mention of "Raphael," "Rafael" etc. I can only guess as to whether Raphael Hadane and Joseph Hadana/Yosef Hadane are the same person - if this is the case, then perhaps a page rename and move is warranted. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:15, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Raphael HadaneYosef Hadane – Request made 23 May 2012 by user:Gyrofrog using template:movenotice. Reason given by Gyrofrog is "I propose moving this article to Yosef Hadane as that's who various news articles seem to be about" -- PBS (talk) 16:25, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And another Jerusalem Post article mentions Yosef Hadane, but not Rafael nor Raphael. It is no longer clear to me that there is a notable person named Raphael Hadane, but there is one named Yosef Hadane. I propose moving this article to Yosef Hadane as that's who various news articles seem to be about. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 09:27, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These are two different people, Kes Raphael Hadane is the father of Rabbi Yosef Hadane. אדעולם (talk) 20:40, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But presumably only one of them is the high priest? -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:16, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Raphael Hadane is a High Priest (actually, one of the high priests of Beta Israel) and his son, Yosef Hadane is the "Chief Rabbi of Ethiopian Jewry". See also אדעולם. (talk) 22:00, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
