This article has been moved more than twice in the past 7 days. FWIW, I see that "referendum" refers to a general term for an electoral exercise that involves voting but not actual people, and "plebiscite" refers to a subset of electoral exercises of referendums. Referendums and plebiscites mean two different things in the Philippines and we should adapt to local terminology (i.e. have both in the article title). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:21, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As stated above, one way of interpreting is that referendums are the general term, while plebiscites are a specific subset of it. Academicians prefer to use "referendum" as a catch-all term, e.g. "The referendum scorecard 1935-1987" by Manuel L. Quezon III, plus the Dieter Nohlen book also used "referendum".

2024 Special Geographic Area plebiscites

@Howard the Duck: Were the 2024 Special Geographic Area plebiscites municipal-wide plebiscites? HueMan1 (talk) 23:24, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good question; it does not, but led to creation of new municipalities. The criteria for inclusion is "These plebiscites involved entire municipalities or cities, asked for the incorporation of a new municipality, or asked for cityhood" (emphasis mine).

FWIW, I would still prefer that plebiscite article to be merged with the primary SGA one. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:29, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
