"It is filled with overpriced ashrams and a couple of German bakeries thrown in for good measure. Marijuana is easy to purchase and you will encounter many toked out hippies in your travels. Nevertheless it is an interesting experience if you remember to keep an open mind."

I am not quite sure what the point of such commentary is in an academic article about this city, and as such I am excising it from the article text. J. Charles Taylor 07:49, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Places to visit and what to do

[edit]

Could some body write about the places tourists can visit like the ramjhula and lakshman jhula and all and the aarti at night.

Whay Hrishikesh?

[edit]

I have been ther and newer seen that spelling. If you see on the links at the boten, "everybody" spells it rishikesh.

I think the article name definitely should be changed to "Rishikesh". -Roger Roger 19:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted almost all pictures from Rishikesh

[edit]

Hello all

One of brother AtHomeIn神戸 deleted all pictures in Rishikesh page without giving any reason. Currently the page looks horrible and vague , all guys please share your views and decide a page with beautiful pictures or page in haunted theme .Amit.pratap1988 (talk) 08:54, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Amit.pratap1988, you restored all of the photos yesterday, except for the Facebook one which we agree does not belong. Today I have moved some of the photos to more appropriate locations in the article, and some others to the gallery at the end of the article. Regarding a "haunted theme", it is important to remember that this is an encyclopedia, not a travel brochure. I suggest a read through the policy page on photos regarding what should be included. For example, there was a picture of the beach in almost every section, including the "history" and "yoga center" sections. These are irrelevant, so I've moved them to the gallery. AtHomeIn神戸 Wikipedia is a place where peaple find a all material regarding place which include pictures(which you almost deleted all ),relevant information.I may agree Wikipedia is not a travel brochure but Wikipedia includes all such information and encyclopedia is not a dull stuff .IT provide all relevant pictures like beach in starting of pages which you deleted.Amit.pratap1988 (talk) 15:54, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Let's have a think about what you have just said. "Wikipedia is a place where peaple find a all material regarding place which include pictures(which you almost deleted all )" First of all, let's correct this lie about "deleting almost all of the pictures. here is a list of the pictures I removed when I first touched the article:
  • Infobox - I removed three pictures. Two of them were appearing again later in the article, and one was a copy from facebook. So deleting all of them was correct.
  • Geography - I deleted a large photo copied from facebook, and moved a photo of the road to the gallery. Deleting the picture was correct.
  • Demographics - There were a photo of wall art which I moved to the gallery. What does wall art have to do with demographics? Nothing, so it doesn't really belong there. A photo of local people would be better.
  • Yoga center - There was a large photo of the beach. What does that have to with the yoga center? So I moved it to the gallery; I didn't delete it.
  • "Effecting spiritual environment" subsection - another photo of the river and bridge. This section is about too many tourists not respecting the area? So why have a photo with no people? Again, I did not delete it, I moved it to the gallery.
I will say it again to make it absolutely clear - the only two photos I deleted completely were copied from facebook. I also deleted two more which were appearing twice in the article. The others I moved to the gallery.
Going back to the topic, an encyclopedia is for information. Pictures provide context for the information. Adding more pictures of the same beach does not give extra information. Adding the same photo in different parts of the article definitely does not help explain anything. So let's look at the pictures which are currently in the article:
  • Infobox - picture of the bridge, beach and city
  • Geograhpy - picture of the beach and city
  • Environmental concerns - picture of the bridge and beach, another picture of the beach
  • Gallery - three pictures of a temple, wall art and road, a citure of the beach and city, and another picture of the bridge, beach and city
That is 6 pictures which already include the beach or river. Are you saying you want more? The article about my favourite beach only has 5 pictures. Please remember that this is an article about the city. If you want more pictures included, make them different instead of the same beach. How about the food, the temples and the people? If this is the "world capital of yoga", how about a photo of yoga? I stand by my original edits that moving the many pictures of the same water to the gallery was a correct decision.
