Death[edit]

I found a source that may not be reliable. It says he died of cardiac arrest while sitting in front of his computer. Is there suitable source for this? HalfGig talk 14:59, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I too wondered why there was no mention of such an early death. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 16:28, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for bringing it up. Nienhuys, Jan Willem (September 2014). "IN MEMORIAM: Rob Nanninga, Skeptic Leader and Editor". Skeptical Inquirer. 38 (5): 12. says literally "On the morning of May 30, he was found –seemingly asleep– sitting in front of his computer. The diagnosis was cardiac arrest." Jan Willem Nienhuys (10 June 2014). "In Memoriam Rob Nanninga". Skepsis Blog (in Dutch). Stichting Skepsis. Retrieved 19 February 2015. says exactly the same in Dutch (the SI article was based on this blog post). Shall we include this information under 'Personal life' as its concluding sentence? Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 08:14, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So the original source was the blog? How reliable is this blog? Are there any other sources, perhaps an obituary in a newspaper? The basic question here is the reliability of the blog. HalfGig talk 10:41, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is the official Skepsis Blog (to which Nanninga also contributed himself; he is actually still registered as its 'admin' if you check the URL); the post is written by Nienhuys, perhaps his closest friend within Skepsis, and co-editor of Skepter ever since 1988. Skeptical Inquirer is a reliable source, and all newspaper obituaries that mention his cause of death (including Groninger Gezinsbode and The Post Online, both of which are referenced in the article) quote Nienhuys directly or indirectly. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 00:43, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I can include the de Volkskrant obituary that also claims cardiac arrest as the cause of death. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 00:58, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I'd suggest picking whichever one of those you consider the best source and adding this info, with reference, to both the EN and NL wiki articles. Thank you for the research. HalfGig talk 01:48, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You're welcome. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 01:19, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
