Untitled[edit]

I made a slight change to improve readability. I'm a little concerned that there is no reference for most of the facts here, but didn't want to litter the page with [citation needed] tags. If anyone knows any sources for this information, it might be nice to put them in the article. Ruad (talk) 12:57, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Preservations[edit]

The current text claims that "[d]ue to preservation, the main painting of The Last Supper has now been safe for many centuries." Now though that might be true for the most recent of restorations, the most of them did only damage to the fresco. The original technique, painting with oils on dry secco, was highly experimental at the time the mural was made, and it began to flake off within a century. Several preservation efforts are claimed to mostly have damaged the painting. (several sources have a similar wording, e.g. Stockstad, Cothren Art History, 4th ed.).

The text has been changed to be more in line with the fact that preservations and restorations took place during several centuries, yet most of them didn't have very beneficial effect on the painting. Sjlain (talk) 08:48, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
