"If a ball is potted when a penalty has been conceded, the offending player's ball which has been potted is to be placed once again back into the original spot it was at before as it was an illegal pot. This is the same rule for snooker." Really? I haven't encountered this kind of placing in pool billiards before, but indeed, my experience is very limited. In my experience, all replacement of the object balls is to the foot spot. Major penalty (after loss of the game) is a free ball in hand, which is a big deal. Snooker doesn't have this. What's up with the rules?
[edit]I've seen 7-ball played on ESPN, I've played with semi-professionals in pool halls, and read descriptions of the rules online all of which have never given a hint that the pocket designation rule exists, and under all those circumstances I've seen it played exactly like 9-ball with sometimes the exception of it being a call shot game, either just the 7, or all balls, and I've sometimes seen it played where any inning at the table is ball in hand. But I've never heard of the ball being placed where it was before a foul, like snooker, or the three pocket designation rule. How popular is it to play that way, and if it's not standardized anywhere, shouldn't the page describe more than just one style of play? Dancindazed (talk) 21:05, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I also found in the 2004 edition of the BCA produced book that it included the rules for Seven Ball. This was also included in the 2008 edition Cite error: There are <ref>

It is clear from reading the text from the previous link that the official rules for the game are different from what is stated the Wiki article most notably that the balls except for the seven can be potted in any pocket and only the seven ball must be pocketed in one of the three side pockets that are called at the start of the game.
Additional information about Seven-ball Pool on how to set it up with a triangle and using the leftover balls when playing it on a coin operated Pool table
[edit]Hi, is it worth pointing out that setting up the balls on Seven-ball Pool can also be done with a standard Fifteen-Ball triangle rack turned diagonally? I noticed that in a few videos of Seven-ball Pool, the referee did this manner, (and I've cited these references in my recent edit), but used an unused object ball or cueball in the apex corner of the rack before gently rolling it off after lifting the rack. I did this manner when playing Seven-ball Pool and it worked well for me. I also think it's also worth noting that when playing Seven-ball Pool on a coin operated Pool table, you can use the leftover balls 9 to 15 after using balls 1 to 7, or to make it easier to see the "money ball", use the 15-Ball as the 7-Ball when playing the first frame, and using the 7-Ball as the 15-Ball for the second frame (the 8-Ball being discarded, but can be used as an apex corner ball when racking with a triangle). I'm sorry if I was a bit of a pain reverting the edits I added, but I do think that my information is useful. I also have contributed by adding photos that I've taken, showing how to rack a game of Seven-ball Pool with a standard Fifteen-Ball triangle rack and using the leftover balls when playing on a coin operated Pool table. I hope that you can keep my edit that has improved the page. Samnewplace (talk) 21:27, 25 August 2021 (UTC)SamnewplaceSamnewplace (talk) 21:27, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
