[edit]The title of this article needs ammending. Either
- London - Ashford - Dover Line (correct spacing)
- London to Ashford to Dover Line
- London to Dover via Ashford Line
One of the last two options would be preferable as they are more consistent with the naming of other railway line articles. Our Phellap 15:52, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
fair play, i agree that some new name is needed, but we in Kent have yet to sort out how to display our services by SET in wiikpedia! --Pickle 21:05, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
I decided to move it to "London to Ashford to Dover Line" Our Phellap 21:37, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Overhauled as per SET / Chatham main line talk, in conjunction with the Kent Coast Line article overhaul and the new Ashford via Maidstone East Line article. This article's title needs to make it clearer that this is the line via Sevenoaks as opposed to services via the Brighton Main Line (via Redhill and Croydon East).Pickle 15:12, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm getting increasingly unhappy with the very awkward name of this article. I and other editors (eg Tramlink route 1 ) elsewhere are now referring to this as the SER Main Line. I'm thinking about renaming this article to "SER Main Line" or even "South Eastern Railway Main Line" - anyone with any thoughts ??? Pickle 19:54, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

London to Ashford to Dover Line → South Eastern Main Line — Referred to commonly and officially. Some people are unsure on the current name Simply south 19:17, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Survey - in support of the move
[edit]- Support - well I've had the idea of renaming it for a while on this page and no one is moaning. Seams to fit better. The other main line in Kent is the "Chatham" main line, named after the LCDR who initially built and ran it. This line was built by the SER so "Southeastern" fits IMHO. It would make naming easier around i hope. Pickle 19:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- If this was the South Eastern Railway's main line, then the name "South Eastern Main Line" makes perfect sense. Chris cheese whine 22:13, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Map
[edit]The map is great to have ... but I do wonder if it is too long for its own good. Yes, it is good to have a map, but it must be readable ... and that is why I worry that this map is too long. Anyone else concerned about this. Sheepcot 22:08, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Depends on what the map is used for. A quick look at Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:South Eastern Main Line shows only the line page links to the template with the map on. if this line was like the WCML, ECML and MML which have short brief maps because each station on the line use the template too (why i don't know but thats for another day). I'm of the opinion that every notable (ie has or should have a Wikipedia article) should be included, and if the crazy Germans built the WP:TRAIL with the icons, why not use them ??? I originally created when several extra icons weren't available and maybe some lines could be saved if i had time to do a full copy edit (busy for the next month or so I'm afraid). - I was just going to ask about the map. Would it be better normally collapsed, or better on a sub-page, similar to how the map is presented on the Medway watermills article? Mjroots (talk) 09:39, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Btw, you do know Pickle UK has been missing, or possibly WP:RTV since 2 years ago. Anyway, the RDT is already effectively on its own subpage. With the features relatively added it is also collapsible. With it being on a separate page but transcluded, it means that all the detail of the route it takes is summed up diagrammatically and the space is reduced whilst it is still presented. Accidents
[edit]I've added a section to the article covering the various accidents. I'm working on the Marden train crash article, and it will be released sometime during February as my 500th new creation. There are other accidents I know of which aren't mentioned yet. The most significant of this probably being the landslip at Folkestone Warren in the 1900s. This is mentioned in The South Eastern and Chatham Railway by O S Nock. I can't lay my hands on this until Tuesday at the earliest. Another accident I know of involved two freight trains at Paddock Wood in the 1960s but I need to do further research on this before it can go in. I'm not sure about the accidents at Lewisham in 1857 and 1957 though. Were these on the SEML or not? If anyone knows of any other accidents that are verifiable please add them in. Mjroots (talk) 19:38, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- Regarding the 1957 accident, I would say this was on the SEML as a train under the Lewisham to Nunhead bridge was hit by the 4.56 Cannon Street to Ramsgate. I'm no sure about the 1857 accident though. Edgepedia (talk) 11:37, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- 1957 accident added. Mjroots (talk) 18:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Operation
[edit]I'm not at all sure why the Operation section mentions the SECR G class: according to D.L. Bradley, "practically their entire working life was spent on Chatham metals", i.e. the former LCDR main line, not the SEML, for which five more Class B 4-4-0s were built in 1899. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:11, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
