Stan Barrett's run in the Budweiser rocket was NOT an attempt to break the land speed record because he did not attempt to conform to the FIA rules in such matters as doing a return run within the hour and using an FIA approved timing method. It was an attempt to drive a land vehicle faster than anyone had done before but that is not the same thing as setting the LSR.
It was claimed that he broke the sound barrier but there is insufficient reliable evidence for this. His speed was not measured by any recognised authorities and the method used was highly suspect and completely lacking in credibility. --EricPolymath (talk) 14:40, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
