Name

Now that the template has been added to the top, without any references for it, I'll assume the article is misnamed according to our naming conventions. Gene Nygaard (talk) 22:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We really need to formally incorporate into our naming conventions exceptions for art-names and iemoto system names. I've asked on at least one occasion that an exception be made for kabuki actors (here's a similar past discussion for sumo wrestlers), but I don't think it was ever formalized in the WP:MOS-JA guidelines. Should we make this a formal discussion on Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)? LordAmeth (talk) 02:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It serves the function of a family name, in the sense that he is Tōsha-san or Tōsha-sensei, not Meishō-san; in the sense that he shares the name Tōsha, not the name Meishō, with others of the lineage/school. But not in the sense that it should be considered a regular ordinary name like Tanaka.. I see your point. But we do need to establish formal allowance of exceptions for this kind of thing in the guidelines. That's my stand. LordAmeth (talk) 16:10, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
