[edit]When was this "a permanent base for warships patrolling the North Sea and a gathering point for refitted or newly-built ships coming out of Chatham Dockyard"? There are no years or mentions of wars in the article... Important information which should be added please. LordAmeth 20:11, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

The Downs → The Downs (ship anchorage) – To most people in Britain except sailors, "the Downs" without disambiguation first means chalk hill areas such as the North Downs or the South Downs. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:22, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

An editor added information about Barton to the article, with a cite to an old book; the information, though, is contradicted by our own article about the man (Andrew Barton (privateer)), with seemingly stronger, multiple, references. I have no knowledge of the correctness of either, and have edited to try and be essentially neutral. I have hidden but not removed the previous cite. If anyone has better or further knowledge, please re-add it or correct me. Happy days, ~ LindsayHello 10:04, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
