Contract
[edit]In Brazil, player contract usually heavily depends on their agent. Thiago Silva is the case the agent own him. RS Futebol and Tombense were company to maximize economic rights, but technically he still a "player" of the "football club". Silva not yet a Milan player but for Tombense, as the loan deal not finalized yet. Matthew_hk tc 15:07, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Falsehoods. Thiago Silva is a free agent. He is not associated with any team. And Tombense does not own the rights to him or have him under contract. He is not a player under any team. He is a free agent. You have been reported to Wikipedia for making malicious edits to this website. He is a player for Milan and it is not a loan deal. You're wrong. It is a permanent deal pending in July 2009, as he signed a permanent 4 year contract deal. Gcarini (talk) 08:49, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- According to the Brazilian FA website he appears to be signed with Tombense, which is however a sort of "pro-forma" team (see Tombense Futebol Clube for details), personally I think it is just a trick to allow AC Milan to send him on loan in case they decide to do so (he could not obviously be sent on loan to a team as a free agent). I don't think this legal trick is worth of mention in the article, but it is good to clarify this. And please calm down, we are here to make an encyclopedia. --Angelo (talk) 14:09, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Not exactly. He could remain a free agent until July 2009 and remain off the books. It isn't necessary for him to get involved with some extra legal paperwork. Gcarini (talk) 19:55, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- What you say is valid under the idea he is not going to be sent out on loan; but, as you probably know, there is some speculation in Italy about the possibility Thiago Silva could be loaned to Genoa for the remainder of the current season, and this could not happen if he would be a free agent (who would send him on loaning, since he has no club?). Thiago Silva's is likely to be a football transfer case where AC Milan has a private agreement with this Brazilian "club" not so different than Chievo and Inter's with Victor Obinna and Kerlon, and Livorno and Juventus with Adrian Mutu (where it was Livorno who actually signed Mutu from Chelsea only to sell him to Juve the very next minute, as Romania was not a EU country at the time and Juve had no place to sign a non-EU national from abroad at the time). --Angelo (talk) 20:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

- lega calcio also listed he is signed from Tombense. Matthew_hk tc 21:29, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- New information found. AC Milan annual report 2009 listed he was signed from Tombense and in Flu annual report 2009 the club only received Solidarity Contribution. It is because Fluminense owed government money and restricted the club to negotiate international transfer. As third party ownership is allowed, Fluminense probably did not own the player at the first time, or received the transfer money in a different way. Only we know Tombense received the money. Age/Olympics
[edit]If he is 24 now, he would not have been over 23 last summer, and therefore not one of the 'older' players, or am i missing something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.212.138 (talk) 18:58, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Thiago Emiliano da Silva → Thiago Silva (footballer) – Thiago Silva is his common name as listed by his club, UEFA, FIFA and various news sources. Thiago Silva is also his shirt name, although sometimes it's written as T. Silva. English wikipedia only has two articles about footballer named Thiago Silva, Thiago Emiliano da Silva and Thiago Jotta da Silva, but the latter is more commonly known as Thiago da Silva. Thiago Emiliano da Silva is by far the most notable of those two. The other notable people named Thiago Silva is only Thiago Silva (fighter), which is already disambiguated. — MT (talk) 04:02, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- Support as per WP:COMMONNAME. --Carioca (talk) 19:32, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- cmt In the interests of transparency, probably worth mentioning that there is also Tiago Silva dos Santos, known as Tiago Silva who is also a footballer, and while the spelling is slightly different, it appears close enough the Thiago Silva DAB page is at Tiago Silva. And there is also Tiago Treichel Moraes da Silva on that DAB, although he is located at Tiago Treichel. --ClubOranjeT 11:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, but Tiago Silva dos Santos is not as well known as Thiago Emiliano da Silva, and, as you said, his name is spelled slight differently anyway, and Tiago Treichel Moraes da Silva is commonly known as Tiago Treichel, not as Thiago Silva. --Carioca (talk) 19:25, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- Support. Interesting one. Fully agree that "Thiago Silva" is the common name. I had a look at the dab page and it appears that this guy is the only footballer who is commonly known as "Thiago Silva" (there is a boxer of this name). The other footballers are either known as "Thiago da Silva" or "Tiago Silva". In my opinion, that is enough to distinguish them from this player, provided that hatnotes are added to the relevant articles. Note: in the interests of full disclosure, I was asked to comment here by MT, but his note was neutral and was a result of us discussing a similar RM. Jenks24 (talk) 06:52, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Ibrahimovic has been sold to PSG, AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed, along with Thiago Silva. [1]
Allenico (talk) 19:18, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
It has not been 100% confirmed on any club websites, this is simply a apparent quote from Berlusconi and should be reverted until official confirmation from either club. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catchy875 (talk • contribs) 19:39, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

RE: Quotes - Thiago Silva
[edit]The section was removed because apparently "a whole section of quotes do not belong". Looking at a couple of other Wikipedia pages that I was inspired to make this section for, they had their own section for quotes that supplemented the information in the article.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El%C3%ADas_Figueroa#Comments https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Laudrup#Quotes_on_Laudrup
Which quotes did not "support discussion in the prose"? Do they not have a value of their own, let alone them supplementing both the written parts and the awards section?
You look at the quotes, they show the progress of his career in European football. From 2011 to 2014, these are all quotes about Silva that show how sparkling his reputation, and ability are. From 2011 where he was rated as one of the best in the world, to 2013 where he was rated as the best of his generation, and comparable to some of the greatest defenders of all-time. How do you see that through the rest of the article? All you see is Silva winning the same awards consistently which doesn't show the real progress he has undertaken.
Why would the quotes be removed so quickly without having a discussion on his Talk page? I've never edited anything on Wikipedia before today, hence the question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VelaVelita (talk • contribs) 12:46, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
- I will start with the question about why were the quotes removed rather than discussed first. A good editing cycle is the Bold, Revert, Discuss. You made a Bold edit adding the quotes, I Reverted the addition and now we discuss the content.
- We have an essay that discusses quotations with a specific section about quote farms. That is what you added to this article, just a long section of nothing but quotes with no prose to give any context to those quotes. The policy on non-free content, which quotes are, discusses the requirement for minimal use. In this case there wasn't a minimal use of quotes there was 7,800 bytes of quotes or 19 different quotes. We should have relevant quotes but not just long lists of quotes. GB fan 13:21, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
OK, thank you for the clarification. I will just make a Wikiquote page and include the quotations. - Vela

My last edit
[edit]Hello. When I made my last edit, I only removed the edit done by the previous person (which suggested that Thiago Silva had stopped playing for Paris Saint-Germain). For some reason, a load of spaces got removed, but it doesn’t look like it affected anything. I am on mobile and maybe something I did was different. I did not touch anything other than the Club 7 years category. Just clearing things up if someone asks a question. Paul Vaurie (talk) 03:31, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Runner up medals.
[edit]@Mattythewhite: I wish to ask, is there are reason why you have removed the FA Cup runners up medal. Because as far as I know, there is no direct guideline against inclusion. Govvy (talk) 09:44, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- There has been a discussion recently at WT:FOOTY, which I wrongly thought was about runner-up honours generally, but was actually specifically about runners-up in leagues where teams have been promoted. The honours has since been restored. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:44, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

This article reads like a love letter.
[edit]I know basically nothing about football, but I wanted to look up this supposedly-infamous “2014 FIFA World Cup” and was curious about the guy who was supposedly banned from participating due to an overwhelming number of “fouls” (or something, idk anything about football).
Anyway, here I am — a guy who knows nothing about football or this player, having a perspective completely untainted by fandom or rivalry, who needs to say:
This entire article is unacceptable. I have never seen an actual Wikipedia page this catastrophically biased. The whole page is just sucking on this dude’s toes, and every other sentence has to shoehorn in just how awesome and disciplined and perfect he is. 2600:6C50:7F:F40F:DC76:F6D1:6D1D:3320 (talk) 10:29, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
