Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). A fact from Thomas Cheeseman appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 21 September 2009 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Both spellings appear in sources: a request has been made to move this article to the alternative spelling. If you have any preference for one spelling or another, please state your opinion below. If the move is uncontroversial it can be moved in accordance with WP:MOVE: the target page is only a redirect but has been edited so admin deletion of that page will be needed if there is to be a move: let me know if you wish such assistance. If the move is disputed or is potentially controversial then the procedure at WP:RM is recommended to bring in more experienced editors. If there is no consensus for change then the page will not be moved. Thanks, dave souza, talk09:25, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There was apparently a Cheeseman Memorial Prize, a nationally-awarded competition for secondary-school pupils. In some years it appears to have taken the form of an essay competition, in others a "Spring Diary". In 1940 it was won by botanist Brenda Shore (see her page for reference details). I don't have details of when the prize was instituted or finished, or who awarded it, but there are records pertaining to it in the Auckland Museum, so someone with access may wish to add it to this page.
